Seriously, it was butt ugly. Might be good at what it did but so was the Fiat Multipla. They both got beat with the ugly stick. Twice.

The thing with the 6 series is that I always felt they designed a 911 rival, realised it was too heavy, bottled it and put that boot on it to distance it from the 911 profile it would otherwise have had.

Right now, someone in Munich is reading this and laughing quietly to himself.

£20 grand for something that will sit up the tailpipes of a 430 or a Gallardo or a 911 turbo and sound a damn sight better too.
Awsome engine, the scream at full revs has to be heard to be believed.
Got shown the road home by one a few months back. I had my e39 Beastie wrung out and I could still hear the scream of the V10 as it disappeared.

CANT WAIT TIL THEY COME DOWN TO £15K

Well I've just had a look outside and that looks absolutely nothing like a 911 with or without the boot!

The biggest fault with the M6 was the M5 it was more practical just as fast, and only weighs circa 90 kg more, and i think looks a lot better. Sorry to see the engine go but the 6 Series was the equivelant of Princess Fergie can waft around and make all the right noises but is butt ugly and an embarressment to ride :-)

Unfortunately as soon as you encounter corners the Turbo becomes a receding blip on the horizon. Previous big M-cars would have given the period's Turbo a serious challenge in the curves too, but those days are gone. Also, the M6's tech is impressive, but whether it'll prove as durable as that in the 911 after 10 years is debatable. Again, previous cars have been pretty bulletproof. Basically, the M5/6 are just one trick ponies. It's a great trick, but the older cars were more rounded.

I kind of feel qualified in this regard as my old man has bought a new example of every M5 to date - I was always the coolest kid in class smile. I've driven his latest extensively, but just can't quite love it. The others seemed to have more than just (in period) ballistic acceleration. I blame Mercedes and Audi. Power is the new black. Subtlety and handling finesse have fallen by the wayside. Personally, I'll miss the V10, but not the cars that were wrapped around it. I'm not optimistic about the next one either, but we shall see...

This is a (or used to be) a website for petrolheads......not dheads ...run along
This is a ( or used to be ) a website where people could speak their mind and give an opinion. Not every comment needs to be praise or has to go along with your view of a car.
I agree....my point was
1..."ugly"....fair enough.....everyone is entitled to their opinion as to the looks of the any car.
2...."stupid"......5 ltr V10...?....200mph.....astonishing grip levels and supercar-frightening pace (EVO)
3...."piece of crap"...build quality/structural integrity etc etc....plus see 2 above

opinions are one thing,as is disagreement......ill-thought out comment and short-sightedness are another thing completely.

As someone who owned both, I disagree. Their biggest problem is th gear saying that. Once I upgraded from M5 to M6, the difference in roadholding and precision was surprising! The M6 is a scalpel when the M5 is a folding knife in comparison.

Also I always thought that the 6-series were one of the best looking cars on the road. I still do!

I am sad and happy that the current M6 is finished. I will try and hang on to my M6 through my life (as opposed to chopping it in for something else) as I really see their desirability coming back in a big way. The original M6 was unloved too at the beginning if i recall. Very desireable cars now.
