RE: SOTW: Mazda Xedos 6
Discussion
I've owned two of these, and was probably the most active club member for a while. The club has since closed along with my hours of work detailing cam-belt changes etc
Anyway...
They are beautiful cars to drive and very good looking in the right colour. I don't like this example in maroon, but my two Mica Blue ones were very pleasing to the eye.
They aren't the fastest cars in the world, but the V6 is quite and extremely refined. Not many petrol V6's will return 36mpg. They are great motorway mile-munchers, back seat legroom is good, and the boot is huge. The interiors are very well laid out with every electrical gadget you will need. 4x electric windows, A/C, Sunroof, C/L etc etc.
Sadly they are starting to suffer from rust, mainly on the rear arches and around the sunroof/windscreen area. Shame because they are very unique and 'different'.

It was hailed at the time by many in the press as a 'mini Jag', long before the X-type came along. Styling looked great (and different) back then.
My SE was fully loaded and a rather nice place to sit. Even sounded good too. But the V6 had no torque and the handling was not exactly what you'd call sporty!
Clown in Escort decided to run into it head-on at traffic lights so my Zee-dos became a baked bean can prematurely :-(

Mazda themselves suggest the car is pronounced 'ker-say-dos'
Odd eh? You'd have thought is was zee-dos, but apparently not.
Yep, definitely pronounced Ker say dos. Trust me Odd eh? You'd have thought is was zee-dos, but apparently not.
Lovely to drive, wallowy though but a nice motorway cruiser.

Always liked the look of these, but never thought of pronouncing the name as Ker-say-dos!
Competed in the BTCC around 1994 I seem to recall.

I guess it depends how people say things, Tomato/Tomato etc etc.
I came within inches of buying a lovely 94' V6 manual with all the toys many years ago. It was black with cream leather and looked lovely!
If it werent for the fact I was 19 at the time and had to get my dads approval it would have been mine for peanuts. It was a mates car and in the end, a few weeks later the front suspension collapsed. Maybe lucky I left it well alone - thanks Dad!
Even still, it was a great car with a lovely V6, very refined and if I was looking for a shed it would be near the top of the list. Although decent examples with a manual box are becoming very hard to find. Shame.
quality shedding this week, keep up the good work.

I've always liked they way these looked - they were great looking back in the 90s when most other cars were terminally bland, and imo have aged extremely well - put some modern wheels on it you'd have a better looking car then 90% of present day saloon cars.
Can believe it'd be that much fun to drive mind you which is a shame.

I've always pronounced them Zay-dhos
I have two memories about the car:
1) In the air cadets our squadron leaer had one as a company car, and was forever telling us how much kit he got for the spec.
2) I remember in one of those cheap bookshops they had a huge book about this car- massive, glossy and very heavy. Real coffee table book- about a saloon car!

Easy to pronounce - say 'Zedos'
My oldman has owned his for over 5 years with barely anything needing doing to it.
Great mid-90's jap reliability, great build quality, super-smooth ride and engine (apart from a bit of a fussy clutch at low speed) and fantastic equipment spec as standard.
Looks wise I think they are pretty cool - apart from the wheels which are too small and a bit ugly. Dash is a touch plastic too compared to BMW / Mercedes etc.
It is one of the biggest bargain luxury cars thet you could get over the last 10 years, now being superseded by Lexus'.
For cheap money you will love the ride.
My Brother had one for years, good motorway hack, sold it to a mate with over 150,000 on the clock a few years ago, and it's still going I think! My oldman has owned his for over 5 years with barely anything needing doing to it.
