Fantastic - can't wait to see the finished product.
Does anybody recognise the program that the screenshot was taken from? I'm curious to know what software such a company uses.
The software is Autodesk Alias Automotive 2010. I used this at university and its a great piece of software. Think it runs at around $4-5,000 per machine though! Pretty much industry standard software when it comes to car design. Website can be found here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?id=1...Does anybody recognise the program that the screenshot was taken from? Hope that helps!
I suspect its a rather simple explanation. I assume the race car was never registered as a road car and for whatever reason can't be registered (I had a Honda like this). So he's found a suitable road registered car, he can move the race bits over and then add the new body. Leaves him with a road registered racing car without any of the hassle. Simples.
What a great project though. Be good to see more build photo's and to find out where he plans to race it.

I like it but why has he gone down the F430 route?
I think he should have stuck to basing it on an Enzo, he's spending an awful lot of money but I feel basing it on the F430 cheapens it slightly and could end up looking a little odd!
If your going to make a bespoke F430 race car then I think he should go for an all new design and not reproportion the P4/5 to fit.
But then I don't have a couple of Squillion to squander so what do I know?!?!
I wonder if the 430 parts are homologated and the Enzo ones aren't? I know the MC12 has FIA GT1 homologation, but there is no Enzo actively racing at the moment to my knowledge. Glickenhaus is lucky enough to own the P3/4 and the P4/5. Lucky guy and fair play to him.
How about P5/6?
Hi
The reason the straps/Crane is used because the car is being lowered onto a very carefully calibrated surface plate/scanner in order to gather engineering data we'll need. If you push it on you effect the calibration.
The Team involved recently designed and built this one:

The reason we started with a US road legal F 430 is that, that is the only way to eventually wind up with a US road car. We're going through the same process as we did with P 4/5 which started with a US Road Legal Enzo.
Starting with an Enzo wouldn't have worked because V 12's aren't fuel efficient and at the 24 of Nurburgring that matters with 16 mile laps. Carbon Fiber Tubs are also not allowed at the Ring. The class we can run in EXP1 is basically allowing us to run Ferrari F430 GT2 specs. with a body similar to P 4/5 not a
P 4/5 body morphed into an LMP1. We will be running against several factory teams including Porsche (918), Aston, VW, Audi, BMW, and many very talented private teams. We are simply looking to put on a good effort, have a good time and bring back a bit of the days when Privateers such as NART/Maranello Concessionaires/etc. had a chance. We also want to have a car that can drive to the track, race, and drive home.
Hope to see you guys at the Ring next June!

interesting stuff
Thanks for the reply! So the reason you're using a road car rather than the race car as a base is so it can be road registered later?Cracking project, best of luck for the 24hr
