My father was fortunate enough to actually own a Stratos and I drove it many times. The thing to remember is that the car was designed to go rallying in. It had a very short wheelbase and felt very lightweight which resulted in very darty kart like handling ( which was fun but you had to be very careful with it ALL the time ). On the other hand, it was cramped, noisy, had zero ventilation ( and thus got very hot ) and was pretty crude ( it didn't even have window winders ). No wonder Lancia struggled to sell them. It did look beautiful, but as a car, the subsequent 037 and S4 were a lot better.

I suspect that the new car, should it come to market, will be a lot heavier and more luxioursly finished. It will be called a Stratos, and look in many ways like it, but will not share any of the DNA of the original.

And as 'cramorra' says, Lancia needs some 'signature cars'.
Given the current trend towards executive supercars. ie. Rapide, Panamera, Quattroporte, Lamborghini’s Estoque (please build!) I'm surprised they haven't resurrected a modern Lancia Thema 8.32.
In many ways, the closest anyone has come to an 8.32 is the Maserati QP. Not sure there's room in the group for that and a Lancia flavoured version.

This is the "closest to the original design" of any motor I've seen - excellent smile

The test - any aficionado will know what it is straight away clap

Sounds great to me using the Maserati platform for a Lancia QP 8.32 successor!
Would be terrific if the design is right and perhaps not so boxy as the original Thema.

I think the problem for me, is that stupid thing around the back of the roof. It looks terrible!
I think it is an interesting take on the original roof spoiler.

Would be interested as to what it does though, the original was basically to blow air across the engine vents to try and keep the engine cool.

Would like to know what their modern take on a group 4 lamp pod would be a well, maybe a low profile block of LEDs? biggrin

No, no no no, no.

Hawk replica of the original is much higher up my list of cars I'd buy if I won the lottery.

The original Thema may look boxy now but it was cool and modern when it came out- realy desireable think of it like an Audi now (alas without the build quality). I was fortunate enough to on a 91 Thema V6 LX with the glorious Alfa V6 and the 8.32 kit - had even electric seats in the back --- stunning
Other features where adaptive electronic damping and visco drive (an early mechanic attempt on traction control), reasonable well in controlling torque steer but handling could be a bit of a handful---lovely car and I think the last competitive Lancia Saloon- the K and Thesis were good cars but not leading the way but following it, hence outgunned by the competition
A pity that the Thesis did not carry over more from the dialogos study....

I adore this car. A wonderful update of a timeless design.

But, of course, I'm slightly biased.

That is because it is missing the air scoop on the roof and a lamp pod on the front. And wtf kind of colour choice is silver??

Look a couple of pages back at the picture next to a group 4 car, I think showing it next to a Stradale is wrong given that this concept has most of the group 4 items (big flared arches, roof spoiler, tail spoiler).

Side by side the "new" Stratos actually looks quite pants though initially I was taken by it.

I love the original stratos, but just can't get the new one, agree that silver is a pants colour, maybe the front is too long...
