And they're hardly distinguishable from any other A3.

Depending on your point of view, that's either a very good attribute, or a very bad one.
It's funny you say that, outside my window at work is a clients 2010 S3. From the rear three quarter view I can see it looks identical to my colleagues 2010 1.6TDI Sport. I don't think black is a good colour for it.
I think it's the perfect colour for an S3. wink Not everyone want's to shout about what they're driving.

I completely agree with iggle on this. The Mk5 handles much better than the Mk4, and the lighter engine in the GTI/Ed30 only helps improve on that. The only benefit of the R32 (in either form) is the sound. I'd have a less exciting sound and a more capable car rather than the other way round.
+2

I'd have an Edition 30 over an R32. Oh wait, I did. R32's do sound pretty awesome tho, and that lovely blue colour they do it in cloud9

Maybe I drive like an oaf, but spinning front wheels and torque steer made me go back to an R32.
Or a better drivers car to begin with? wink

I'm sorry but a MK4 Anniversary doesn't handle as well or near as well as an R32, which in itself isn't exactly class leading

I done this change but the other way around, came from a Mk4 R32 and went into a TDi Anniversary.

The Anniversary I much preferred, as it was rarer and a far nicer car to sit inside, the black roof lining helped no end.

If I were you I'd stick with what you have, as IMO the MK4 Anniversary is the best of the Mk4 Golfs (rubbish handling aside)
MKIV Anniversary? I thought it was a MkV he had? The 230bhp GTI thing?

Didn't even know there was a MkIV Anniversary model.
Check the OP.. there isnt a MkV anniversary.. you are thinking of the edition 30
They are the same thing.

The Ed30 was built to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Golf Gti.

It's just not called an anniversary.

No its the diesel anniversary I've got. I've enjoyed the 50+ MPG but really want a petrol now with a bit more going for it and a bit more of a drivers car. The two main things thats making me want an R32 over the MKV GTi is the 4 wheel drive and the sound but then i could get that in a V6 4motion???? I imagine the MKV 30 Edition is quite rare to find as well is it?

I went with the Mark V R32 over the GTI because of the sound and the immediate reaction of the engine. If you can test drive both back to back. The R32 shines beyond what the numbers say or what your accountant would want you to do! It feels quicker and much much more exciting. I recommended the GTI to my mother...

I've the standard leather seats and they're great for distance but still have support if you take a hard turn. I know the interior has that strange fake machine turning (close I suppose still looks good) but the brakes are good, the engine is addictive, and most importantly it's nicely nondescript. It can bring a smile to my face and still not be a cop magnate. No one thinks someone in a golf hatchback is going to be an ass.smile The AWD has proved to be amazingly useful. I even love the wheel...

You can get more for your money from a performance standpoint. I think E46 M3s should, roughly, be in the price range not to mention something with a V8 from GM.

I'm very happy with my R32 and am going to keep it for a good long number of years.

The r32 and the v6 4Mo are preferable over a gti. Upgrade the Haldex and a few mods and they’re extremely capable cars in all weather conditions. The gti in the wet/snow is a joke by comparison. Anyone who slates Haldex hasn’t driven the upgraded versions and/or hasn’t a clue.

No common as muck 4pot turbo compares with the exhaust soundtrack or smooth power delivery.
