Temporary "transit" plates for export...
Discussion
... Do these exist in the UK?
And where to get them from?
Would be convenient as I am taking delivery of a sagaris next monday and would like to drive the beast home (Belgium that is).
The car is MOT'd and taxed.
In Germany eg. a foreigner can buy a car, get a temporary plate for a few months and export it without (insurance/tax/...) worries.
Help greatly appreciated!

I've had this issue when buying a car in UK before.
The options seem to be:
- insure the car on VIN with your insurer in Belgium. Of course get a letter or fax confirming this.
Useful if you can borrow the seller's UK plates for the trip home to avoid questions on the way.
- borrow dealer plates from a Belgian garage. Possibly not legal for you to drive on abroad.
- trailer home

If the car is registered in the UK, then you can simply drive home with the UK plates on, no need for transit plates, have sold many cars into mainland EU in this way with no problems
What about the insurance: possible that seller keeps it insured for a few days with me driving home?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
