Has anyone remapped these yet - I can't imagine theres much more to come from a 1.4, but still.
I know somebody running 212hp from his mapped Golf, not gone bang yet.
I'd read somewhere that the weak point of these isn't the engine ouput per se, but the torque capabilities of the smaller DSG 'box as fitted to the VRS. I'm not sure what a mapped 1.4TSI puts out, but I'd heard that anything over 200lb/ft of torque is risking reliability issues...

...and at the price of DSG parts I'm not sure I'd dare take the risk eek

It's Never going to be a competitor with a turbo engine. One of the best feature of the renault 197's is the engine which is a gem. Although to be honest the entire car is a spectacular package
Funny that, because I much preferred the turbo 1.6 in my Cooper S. The power delivery was great fun and really suited the car. I thought that chances to wring the 197's neck weren't quite so open as in a turbo and it was more relaxing as well (not everyone's cup of tea, mind).

New Fabia VRS has broadly the same spec as a Mini Cooper S but is a few grand cheaper. I was looking at one in the actually rather lovely shade of green you can get it in and I will be sorely tempted to buy one. Finance deals are great too and servicing for 30k/3 years is £99. A great ownership proposition and I think a lot of people will, as before, be embarrassed thinking they have a quicker car than a piddly Skoda Fabia!

Edit: I doubt the DSG box has a problem with above 200lb/ft when it handles 180 in standard form. Not exactly a big margin of error there is there, can't imagine VW doing that. They have been making these boxes for years now.

I don't see VW building a box with such small margins for an increase of torque. Time will tell...

You're right, they wont - VAG do this all the time at Wörthersee. The Octavia RS+, Golf GTI and Polo Wörthersee, Audi A1, etc etc, oh and don't forget the Q5:

Yes of course, parts of this will be coming to a Q5 near you soon rolleyes

Its Skoda UK PR department spin.

I think you misunderstand smiffie's point. He's talking about the gearbox.

And I'm not saying Skoda will build the RS+, but a more hardcore vRS (or at least bits for it) is under serious consideration.

The fact that - according to the internet - the previous Fabia vRS is The Fastest Car In The World (Evah), this new one should be a riot.
Source wink

Not only the fastest, but returning 75mpg as well from just a remap and a filter biggrin

Steve
You don't really need a remap though, as they all produce well over 200hp as standard from the factory. VW won't let Skoda tell anyone though, it's a VAG hierarchy thing.

biggrin
Funny thing is, it's all true! biggrin

I am a bit of a vRS fanboy, I am on my second vRS and I have a new one on order. But this man speaks the truth!

They do go well, but brakes and handling are hardly class leading, and they're not exactly lookers are they? hehe

I know which engine (and everything else) I'd rather have after a few years/miles on the clock, and it isn't French, although I do hear that Nicole has aged quite well.

This hideous, FWD, stty-arsed dollop of pustulant dangly clagnuts will almost certainly be driven exclusively by aggressive young cock-ends with something to prove.

I hope they all explode.

As it has aspirations to be ranked favourably against a classic hatch like the Cup? Don't see it myself but maybe I'll be surprised. I'll certainly be hanging onto my Cup for a while longer!

Oh, I don't know...I'm 31 and I hope I don't count as an aggressive young cock-end. I think my Occy vRS's replacement (in a couple of years, funds notwithstanding) will have to be smaller but chuckable and fun... something like this or its VW Polo/Seat Ibiza clones might fit the bill.

Not with that god-awful colour scheme though. I might get one and paint over the yellow bits with Hammerite. wink

Give it a mid-mounted V6, I'm sure there's space if you take away the seats. A proper Skoda sleeper
