The new VRS looks worse than the previous one,it's not exactly a Polo/Ibiza/A1 clone as it is still based on the older platform and it ain't such a big bargain,it even has less standard equipment than the Cupra.Only reason somebody to buy it instead of the Polo GTI or the Cupra is if five doors are needed.

The engine/DSG combo is great, though. The 1.4 TSI in the Cupra makes 190+ BHP on the dyno,VAG are reall conservative about the power outputs of their performance cars like the Golf GTI,TT RS,etc. And the economy is not bad either,40+ MPG is not hard to achieve in city driving.

If it does come to fruition its great to hear about something in the VAG concentrating on a special chassis.

VW didn't really bother with the Polo GTi.

Go for it Skoda, even offer it as a dealer fitted package like Ford have been doing. The handling mods would be very interesting, as ultimately there is a base package there, it just needs brought to light.

I don't see it touching the Clio for Purity, but as a slightly softer option it could work well.

As for the torque capability of the DSG box, its all about budgets, there is no reason for VAG to develop the gearbox to deal with a bazillion torques. That does not mean that they are technically incompetent.

I know they are old but just a reminder..

why do skodas have heated rear windows?
to keep your hands warm when u push them

what do you call a cabrio skoda?
a skip

whats the difference between a skoda and a turd?
you can flush a turd away

How do you double the value of a skoda?
Fill it with petrol

the 2 best accessories every skoda should come with?
a gallon of petrol and a box of matches

why do skodas have brown seats?
beacause most of the drivers are so old they st themselves

Bearing this in mind.... whats worse than a sporty skoda? at least you can get away with a normal one by saying i dont want to pay VW prices so i bought the C & A version!!

Ah, but it got you reading it, didn't it...? wink

Incidentally, why does it need extra power to be a Clio Cup chaser? That doesn't have any more power than a standard Renaultsport Clio... confused

But it is lighter. Really, you should know this stuff in your line of work.

Garlick, you got any vacancies?

How much does the Clio Cup weigh? From what I remember the Polo GTi (I know it's not a Fab vRS but I seem to remember it being pretty light...), though the 1.4 TSi is down on power compared to the Clio 200, won't it have a big slug more torque?

I like the Fabia vRS. Particularly in the lurid green.

It's barely down on power and does have a fair bit more torque - VW are also notably conservative with their performance claims.

Fabia Estate's gross weight is only 23kg more than the 200 Cup. I would suggest that, especially as it comes with a DSG box, it'll be a smidge quicker in a straight line.

I know about the VW underestimating power thing- my mate's bog-standard Corrado VR6 dyno'd at 212bhp!

We can only hope that they set up the suspension properly and give it a bit more of an edge, the car market could really do with a competitor for the Clio Cup.

I want to go test one, nearest garage isn't too far away. Finance is very competitive and servicing for 3yrs/30k is £99. The estate has more load capacity than a 3-series touring. It's a terrific package and very good value. To be honest I'd prefer a bit of compromise with the suspension, I like a comfortable car.

They've already got the cooking vRS out, I've seen a few of them. I was saying I hope they do a more "cup" style vRS, with stiffer suspension, beefier brakes and a bit of weight saving. 90-100kg off would have me banging down the door- even if the wheels were painted a stupid colour.

Sorry, mis-read. I reckon it's doable. I reckon you'd get a big reduction just by taking the rear seats out, ala Megane. Lighter wheels, bonnet, roof, glass?...

Sachs dampers a la the 182 Cup, Golf R calipers and disks, some lightweight forged wheels.

Job jobbed.
