RE: Latest Pictures: The New Bentley Continental GT

I like that they did not mess too much with the styling and merely updated it. Not sold on the boot yet, though.
To me the first GT was and still is one of the most beautiful designs ever for a large coupe. And if you need a car for two to travel long distances in comfort and four wheel drive for winter then it's difficult to fault.

Wow it REALLY looks like the current CGT - think about how soul destroying this must be for Bentley's design team - "spend as little money as possible, carry over as much as possible but make it look like you've done something". The changes are even more minimal than was suggested in the past and perhaps not enough to encourage the fashionistas back into the Bentley showroom for the new car. It's clear that Bentley would like the car to be viewed as a style Icon like the 911 but this isn't 996 to 997 - it's like a Porsche mid-life facelift on a car that has been largely unchanged for 9 years. And to all those who say that you don't meddle with a classic shape both the CGT and DB9 have been dead in showrooms around the world and it's questionable that these changes are sufficient to bring a new or returning customer in with a purchase in mind.
Don't want to be a "hater" because I do like the CGT but this just isn't different enough for the money they will undoubtedly have spent (much of it changing things under the skin that won't sell a single additional car most likely).

I would imagine the residuals are at the forefront of Bentley's mind- there are a lot of cars already out there, so supply is not an issue. Anything that significantly ages the existing cars is going to impact on the used values. Ironically, for this car, they won't want to make it accessable to the kind of punters Bentley probably doesn't want to be associated with.Don't want to be a "hater" because I do like the CGT but this just isn't different enough for the money they will undoubtedly have spent (much of it changing things under the skin that won't sell a single additional car most likely).
They'll want small time drug dealers to stick to M3s with blacked out windows.
I always thought the Continental GT was a decent looking car. I've only got as far as sitting in one and it does indeed feel pretty special. No idea what it's like to drive but I like the idea of a big comfortable GT that's capable of going like stink and let's not forget this is a car that will do 200mph.
I always find myself playing a fantasy game here about if you could only have one car. This car for me is too flawed for me, I like it, but it's too heavy, doesn't have enough room in the rear for the occasional lift you might need to give to some friends and calling a car with a 200 mile range between refills a grand tourer is taking the piss, surely.

Umm no.. To be honest they shouldn't have bothered. The old one was a Bentley caricature and with a big investment and complete redesign they have managed to create a very slightly different Bentley caricature.
The front, to me, looks like a company trying to revamp but doesn't really know how.
