The mighty Xantias cornering prowess

Perfectly illustrating the phyisics involved! That car didn't have any significant body roll, and yet it understeered horribly about 5 car widths away from the apex.

As said before, just because it doesnt roll much doesnt mean it's suddenly a tarmac terroist......

That wasn't understeer. And did you notice the speed?

watching it, it looked fast with a very nice 1950's style 4 wheel drift. I certainly wouldn't call it understeer either.

Very interesting thread. Plus i've now realised I must be cadence steering my clutch all wrong because I've never understeered with that much panache in my life. biggrin

The interesting thing would be what shape ball of crumpled metal a Xantia without that active suspension would have been if it went into that corner at that speed?

It missed the apex by a mile though.

Clearly the driver provoked the slide - and may I say what truly AWESOME slide it was too! worthy of Ronin!

How much more lateral G can a Xantai Activa generate over a standard Xantia?

A crash caused by the car and its design, or a crash caused by a driver exceeding the cars limit?

eh?? uptill now on this thread i thought we had reached an agreement that because it has "active" suspension an Xantia Activa can easily break the laws of physics, and as the best cornering car ever made, doesn't as such have any limits..............

Not sure where you got that idea from. No-one ever said it was the best handling car EVER. What has been said, is thats its cornering and grip capability is better than that of a comparatively sized car, as a result of its Hydractive II and Activa element of its suspension.

You might as well just give up now. Fact remains, the Activa was a very brave and successful in practice design that was too complicated and expensive for mass production. Its unique, and in my opinion, quite special to drive when pushed, and thats why i am getting another, not to outhandle true sports cars like Porsche's, Lotus's etc. Thats not to say i wont have a laugh trying to keep up round corners smile A large part of it comes down to the driver, and just how big your balls are !
