They may or may not shill bid. If you've sold a few cars on ebay you'll know that getting multiple zero rated bidders is not uncommon. For some reasons, cars seem to bring them out. I've found in the past that zero rated bidders are not more or less likely to be genuine than one with 700 feedback.

If you're buying from these people work out what you'd be prepared to pay at BCA, add on what would be BCA's buyer's fees and maybe a couple of hundred for the benefit of being able to test the car before buying (which you don't get at BCA) and bid that. That way the worst you'll do is pay about what it would cost at BCA but have the chance to check if it is a duffer.

Most cars get bid up at BCA too.
doesn't make it right though

I should have done a search on this company ebay listed here first rather than trust the ebay business model, or rather their interpretation of it, having been shill bid on a couple of cars of theirs I was folowing. Luckily I failed to win either but both were relisted as a second attempt to shill bid them beyond the unofficial "reserve price."

If you take a look at their history of bids on their auctions the great majority of their cars are subject to shill bidding. The evidence is simple. If a bidder on one of their cars has a bid activity level of 100% with the car dealer, bidding on tens of cars, many times per day and doesn't bid or buy anything else, from anyone else, and those cars are then re listed the next day or very soon thereafter what other conclusions can be drawn. On one car I was interested in, the bid activity with the dealer of each bidder apart from me was 100%, 94%, 80%, 54% and 33%.

And as they have been doing it for so long, Ebay must be more than happy with their actions as they are supporting and encouraging this illegal behaviour.

Not only that but they are taking an unfair advantage over their competitors who don't run sham auctions but pay for a clasified ad.

Given the number of cars they advertise, up to 150 at a time, the additional income raised from shill bidding must be very significant.

Cheers,

Tony

The shill bidding still continues on ebay with carswithnoreservereading, was bidding on MX5 has been won twice by a 0 feedback ebayer (shiller).Relisted within hours.
I just wonder if a last second snipe can win by out witting the fake bids.
Ebay as guilty as the sellers , but happy to take the fees

Slightly off topic but at a close livestock auction/market, my f-in-law would whisper to me when an auctioneer was putting up the price, he would know that no one was bidding.

BCA have Inchcape No Reserve sales. Manheim have Marshall No Reserve sales. There are lots of others. It is all rubbish. They all have reserves and if it isn't going high enough the light fitting buys it.

Should they shill bid? Not really. Do they? No idea. Does it mean that their cars might still be good value? Maybe.

If they let them go for what they pay for them minimum then the buyer is getting BCA Black Card price or a bit above plus getting to check the car for 24 hours. A bargain.

Most of their buyers seem to be trade anyway who know how it works and don't really care.

Just keep trying. They only have limited space and money so will have to let it go eventually one way or another and put their money into something with a profit in it.

If I'm bidding on an auction I only use a sniper nowadays. It doesn't give anyone chance to stick shill bids in there.
I know this an old post in an old thread but I don't understand how snipping stops you falling foul of shill bidding

Item listed valued at say £3500 with no reserve on 99p start and no reserve

Seller sticks a bid in of £3000 using an alternate ebay ID the auction price remains at 99p with 1 bid

You set up a snipe for £3100 and as a result you win it for £3001

You've still been bid up

Our local auctioneers got lumbered with 100 ewes by doing this, misread the audience and lost his job.

I assume if the shiller puts in £3k and you snipe £2.5k at the last second, then ebay can't automatically get another bid in before the auction ends, it's too late.So you get it for 99p + the next bid step. I know you've maybe been bid up but not to the shillers bid, only to your limit which you think is good value. is that how it works ??? Or are we all doomed by the shiller frown

No.

If the auction starts at 99p & the shill bidder puts in a bid of £3k then as soon as you bid £2.5k then the price then rises automatically to £2501. There doesn't need to be time to put another bid in as there was already one in (the £3k) prior to your £2.5k bid.

Hope that makes sensesmile

i know this is an old blog but i have been watching this company for nearly a year as i buy and sell c4 picasso`s and have any new ads for c4`s on ebay sent to my emails . their cars always sell above what i would pay ,but leave them in my watch list,
i have one in there that has sold 5 times at more or less forecourt price. with pos feed back left by different buyers , another sold 3 times and another at present up for the second time after being sold, one buyer had bid over 350 times in a mth 100% with this company from reading.
i reported it to ebay twice before and contacted the fraud squad but neather have done anything to my knowledge to date.

I'm shocked that anyone still bothers with ebay auctions. It just encourages morons and adds a load of bks to an otherwise simple process.

Usually the advert will warn you are "bidding to buy" and they are going to employ ISIS style punishments if you don't - if you go to view the car before it ends they never want to strike a deal, proceed to win the bidding themselves by shill bidding and then rant on about timewasters in the relisting.

Carswithnoreservereading, are still up to their old tricks.

Cars with no reserve reading, seem to relist, relist, and relist again.
I feel each staff member there, the ones who wash the cars, all have an eBay account, and bid on many of the cars every day.

Just seems really dodg
