Original invoice for mine shows almost £90k cost for the original owner who did only 14k miles in it. I bought it for £38k so he must have traded it in for even less than that!
Were his tears visible on the V5 at all?? - £50K+ depreciation to drive 14K miles is Lamborghini territory, actually it's worse!?I realise depreciation is a fact of life with high end cars but it still seems brutal...
I used to take my '84 635CSi to a company called Beemer-Redeemer near to Bristol when it needed some tlc. They were in the process of fitting a 5litre V12 donated from a 750il into a 635. It took some re-arranging of ancillaries (brakes steering etc) but they were hoping of monstourous performance out of it when finished. Last i saw, they had finished the paint job. For the money your spending on a e63, this is a far cooler car, ice cold super cool.

Sorry, "gunnels"? You guys are supposed to be writers! It's gunwales as in the old shipping term for a boat that had been packed to where the guns were. Tsk.
Carry on ;-)

n
(Transport / Nautical Terms) a variant spelling of gunwale... We like to be different!
Still, I made you look
Spend £5k+ on an E24 and you will not regret it. It's a modern(ish) classic that will start to rocket in value soon. I am looking to buy back in on this car becase, like an idiot, I missed out on the CSI/CSL gold mine 10 years ago.
The E63 on the other hand looks like a good value, just off current, buy. Don't buy now expecting values to rise, unless you are playing a 20+ year long game, buy now and enjoy. This is a very complicated car that will fall into the hands of those who can't afford to maintain it as the price continues to fall. The banger element will keep prices low, as they have done with the 8 series, for a while yet.

great cars in lots of ways the new 6s, but cheap for a reason. Cost lots to run, bought by folk who cannot afford running costs and condition deteorates.
Electric windows, active suspension and idrive can and will fail on you and all will cost a significant percentage of car value at those prices to fix.
It's the old barge dilemma, just because you can afford the car doesn't mean you can afford to run it...
I personally love the old 80s 6, beautiful things...

This is my 89 hiline.
It's has a the lovely 3.8 from an e34 M5 and Fritz stainless manifold.
Along with uprated ARB's, Bilstein sports shocks, polybushed, H&R lowered 25mm springs, Brembo 4pot calipers.
In the new year it will get aftermarket ecu (maf removed)and the bodywork sorted.
I have had this car for a long time (over 10 years) and its been over 12 months since I have driven it, sooo looking forward to next spring.
I would have it done sooner but have my wedding to pay for!!

I have been running 645 ci for nearly 2 years now, bought in 2005 for 21 k with 26k miles. Driven 9000 trouble free miles, bargain buy, service and tax costs cheaper then our Volvo xc90, great 2nd car. Yes it needs BMW warranty as if anything does go wrong it will pay for it self. Does near 30 mpg on long runs but teens on short runs but its not meant to be a green machine. Love the sound of the V8, very quick for a large barge and provided you have dynamic ride then goes around corners as well!
The run flats cost a bomb at 300 quid per corner so that’s something to watch for. As for looks yes it’s a marmite car but I am amazed how many people come up to me at petrol stations ferries etc and admire the car. So if you want a bargain GT touring machine this is the one to buy the E24 is lovely but I suspect would be very costly to run due to rust, lack of spares etc. If money was no object the M635 csi in mint condition would be great but it is a 20 plus year old car and it will cost accordingly.
Also pistonheads review was not that bad: http://www.pistonheads.com/roadtests/doc.asp?c=100...

My M6 convertible is bad enough at £1.83 per mile in depreciation for the first 33,000 miles.
Not the cheapest thing to run when doing 35,000 miles a year either.
I know this might sound awful but I don`t care. Petrol is far cheaper then Bordeaux or Burgandy and I approach the same rate of consumption as the S85 with both.
I keep telling the fiance I`m not depreciating, I`m a growing asset! 3 stone in 3 years.
