How did Road Angel remove the data? I assume you connected to the PC and thus their site? In which you were asking for it. If you didn't connect your RA to anything then they wouldn't be able to do this surely?
Must be a SIM in the unit - it just stopped working, and I haven't connected it for weeks. Either that or the data expires.

I found the damn thing useless anyway - didn't have all the "normal" Cumbria scamera locations in the database, let alone any of the ones where they operate without warning signs, so I figured if I can't trust it when I'm around home why would I be able to trust it in unfamiliar places? I just use a satnav now and keep my gps speed down below "nickable" when I'm on unfamiliar territory.

What road angel unit is it? We used to have 3 an old RA 2 and 2 compacts both compacts have died and they say they are uneconomic to repair as the main board fails ! The old RA2 goes on and on though must be 6 years old and 4 years out of date but it works.
wouldnt buy another though now have a snooper saphire with lifetime subscription for £99

Can you buy exactly the same unit, from a place staffed by teenagers that dont have a clue, then do a swap? Then take it back, saying it doesnt work?

Note- I've NEVER done this with games consoles in a Arg....

Cough, mutter, grumble smile

That would make him a thief. Are you implying that you DO that?
Only in jest, hence the cough, mutter, grumble and the smiley face. Lost on you smile

How do you rate the Snooper? I'd be interested to hear what the battery life and speed camera database are like.

database is very good , battery life not an issue as hardwired i do prefer the shape and colours , the only thing missing is when in alarm mode it doesnt show the speed limit just your current speed.

Are the alerts obvious/ visible enough? I find that you can miss the speed alerts on a TomTom.

Everyone should be using Blackspot UK's Road Angel Pro Connected. It's the only sure fire way of having a chance at beating mobile scameras.

never considered that so they must be if you see what I mean! Do agree some satnav ones are tame to say the least.

Is it the dedicated detector or the sat nav? I had the former and it continued to work after the subscription ran out, just came up with a message on startup

It's the dedicated detector. It did come up with a warning and then work, but now it doesn't. I noticed yesterday when I connected to my PC that it shows up as "reported as stolen".

I find the Snooper 3zero pretty good, I have one in my Mustang 5.0 and I am pretty sure it has saved my bacon at least once in the 2 months of ownership.
It has to be hard wired to a 12V outlet so battery life is not relevant. Its pretty inconspicuous on the dash as well. I like the digital speed readout and distance countdown to the camera location, plus the vocal reminders of what the speed limit the camera is set to is really useful.

I update every week when back at home but I find the database, while very comprehensive in the UK, is lacking on the continent. Furthermore the software doesn’t really tell you what its updated – just a message to say update complete. Annoyances are SPECs warning go on too long – a database issue, the laser warning is VERY loud (mine has gone off three times, once on a roundabout in London and twice in the same spot Northbound on the M11) and the radar detector goes off in the most unlikely places such as passing hotels and gas stations. It has a curious alarm for ‘High Risk Areas’ presumably where reports of mobile cameras have been made, the manual is less than useless as well. All alerts are clear and better than the TomTom which is a new model with a GPS camera database. The TomTom is better on the continent (I do regular trips to Spain) which is my main disappointment with the Snooper.

I wouldn’t do a trip without it so I guess that endorses the product.

I let my OriginB2 lapse at the end of 08. It still works, though obviously it's out of date. Just a shame that they seem to have folded soon after changing to "Pogo"

I suspect RA, Snooper et al. Are pissed at TomTom and Garmin having camera data on their units which are generally cheaper than the stand alone detectors.
Pogo are still going. Received an email from them last week a substantial discount on their newest unit if I send them my old Origin 2b.

I gave up using my Road Angel a couple of years ago. I found that I already knew the cameras or spotted ones that I didn't know and that it gave far too many false positives. It also took a ridiculous amount of time to acquire satellites. The final straw was that the rechargable battery ceased to hold a charge. I must get round to writing them a rude letter.

Renewed my subscription today and Hey Presto! - when I got back in my car the Road Angel was working again. Must be a SIM in it(or can they communicate with it via satellite?) If they can send information to the unit remotely, why are they charging an extra £150 for a "connected version"?

Yup still in business. Renewed my subscription a few weeks ago and got a mail from them the other day offering me a discount exchange for a new pogo alert. Not gonna bother though at the moment.

Excellent piece of kit.

Another Road Angel rip-off is that the subscription is tied to the unit, so if you buy a new one, you need another subscription. I had three, but will never buy another.

I suprised these units are still popular after the growth of Smartphones and TomToms with Speed Cam databases.
