"Have you been drinking?"

I'd like to see a high-power diesel S1. Problem?

Skoda did the warm hatch diesel thing, with the Fabia vRS a few years back. No reason why Audi cant do something similar with the A1/S1.
Exactly, and with even more power it might even be a 'hot' hatch! A 200-220 bhp diesel in this would be a great car, and a bit different too.

Wow... a dressed up very expensive Seat Ibiza/Skoda Fabia. Really what I wanted!

I don't see a way of anyone getting into one of those without looking like a wannabe boy racer, no matter how good/bad the car really is.
Audi, stop bothering with shopping cart market, bring back Audi Quattro!

Stick in a 2.0T 210ps and I think it will sell well. Remap to 260 and it will fly :-)

A Polo/Skoda that costs the earth, lovely, just what i never wanted. Now we can see even more cocks driving about, but in small hatchback form.

YAY YAY YAY

Perfect 2nd car as a city runaround, can't wait for it to be out just hope it isn't too far from now! Might go have a chat with a salesman for a deposit regardless.

Anyone else getting bored with the whole 'Audi drivers are cocks!'

For many people, a "cock" is anyone driving a car they don't personally like or can't afford.

No chance it will get the 260bhp engine. 210bhp 2.0tfsi is a real possibility I'd say.

Its what around 1100kg just now? Bigger engine and haldex. Probably add an extra 100kg to the weight? Still about 200kg lighter than an A3 2.0 quattro. I'd be expecting 0-60 around 5.9...would make it quick but still slightly off the pace of an S3 which would fit in perfectly.

Still would of thought a Polo R is unlikely. My money's on a Cupra R.

If they are actually planning on building a "CrossPolo" (Juke/Crossman competitor?) then an A1 quattro would be possible.

Wasn't there an A1 Hybrid concept, 1.4TFSI up front, powering the front and then an electric motor under the boot floor powering the rear axel?

If we were to say that about cars we can't afford then we should be saying that about people who drive Astons, Ferraris, Lambos etc.
Yet for some reason its always beemer and audi.

If it gets a 1.6T engine, thats the biggest indicator yet that they are looking at WRC.
A 1.6T has been suggested before, but it just seems unlikely given the current VAG engine range is all fairly new and there are no longer any 1.6 petrols so would they really make a whole new one just for one car?
But there's nothing stopping them adding it to other cars in the range later. You could have said the same for the 5-pot in the TT-RS, but they still built it.

Maybe it's those cars that are so close to people being able to afford, but still just out of reach. Some people do let jealousy get to them, especially when it's about something that's almost a realistic option for them.

If it does have a 1.6 or 2.0 turbo engine rather than the 1.4 then you would expect about 220-240bhp, which is pretty good in something less than 4m long and about 1300kg.

Audi seem a bit hit on miss on the driving dynamics, but if they could get this like an R8 or RS4 then £25k would not be too bad. Certainly that is a good saving on a Golf R, and perhapsmore nimble and chuckable.

Wasnt the TT-RS engine just a turbocharged version of the old 2.5 unit that VW use extensively in the USA?

I read somewhere the TT-RS 5-pot is actually the R8/Gallardo V10 engine chopped in half, then turbo'd.

Don't ask me where though!
