90K BMW or 60K GT-R.

I'll have a GT-R and 30K.

This is really making me think I need to save some pennies and get an M6 before they start dropping into the 'can't afford to maintain them' price range! Want both, just an M6 more for the engine!

Really? That's surprised me.

The M6 is definitely quicker from speeds of 100 mph upwards.

I'm still not sure which one of the two I'd rather have though. Both have plus and minus points, its quite a close thing. I think the final decision would have to be based on what type of driving you do most of.

..as much as I like the M6...it wouldn't see which way the GT-R went.
Why do you insist on perpetuating this nonsense?

The cars are closely matched; on a track, the GT-R might shave it - I really don't know but could hardly care less - across some well surfaced moor, there is absolutely nothing in it.

Above 120 mph you need some later Murcielagae and über/Ruffian Swine to pull away.

As for handling, again, in the dry, the M6 is nothing less than a ruddy great Caterham.

Chris, you forgot to mention that the tyre marks in the photos were from me and Pete wasting the tyres on your M6 to pass the time biggrin

No. Not yet...

However, the M6 and I have been matched against the same and to the speeds already suggested it is neck and neck, after which, the Bavarian lopes ahead.

So you're wrong, innit?

In a straight line, it seems the 5 Series coupe has the edge, particularly at higher speeds.

I'm 99.99% convinced of what I'd be faster in cross-country though.

The GTR looks like what it is, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The M6, on the other hand, doesn't shout about the fact it can leave behind a Gallardo and go on to break through the 200mph barrier. I kinda like that.

off the fking scale.

Have to laugh at the thought of anyone on these 'hallowed' pages being able to eek out a cross country advantage in a GTR over an M6.

Seriously. Get real.

You are of course free to your opinion, just don't mind the laughter.

I won't be bothered in the slightest by others laughing at your unfounded point of view - my opinion is at least based on some personal experience.

Less power though, and I'd imagine significantly more mechanical drag?

Who knows (although you would assume greater frictional losses), but M5/M6s are fast.

Damn you pistonheads. I have been aware of what an absolute bargain the M6 is becoming for some time. First decent one for <20k and im there. Now everyone will want one!

Running costs are astronomical though. MPG in the teens, endless consumuables required and not as reliable as other BMW's. Doesnt put me off mind.

Too close to call. Although I'd imagine the extra weight of the gold medallions worn by the GTR driver would swing it towards the M6.
