You take that as 'fact' are you totally mad? The conditions and drivers are no way controlled so I doubt there is any real consistency in the results.

ERR a professional racing driver driving round a track he knows like the back of his hand? In cars he has ample practice in (not just 1 lap!!!) lap times graded to wet/dry/very wet conditions? I take that as more factual than fat blokes saying they blew this car/that car away on the A1. Sorry if i see that as a more reliable source of evidence of what a car can do when flying through bends and accelerating.. then i guess yes i am totaly mad as for fat blokes boasting in pubs i guess they are THE motoring authority and a manufacturers 0-60 and top speed figures reflect 100 % how a car handles and how it puts its power down when going round a bend? Sorry but I'll take the opinion of a professional racing driver...

childish, just childish.. seems funny how some people react when you do not agree... This whole thread is because i stand by the FACT that an M6 can not keep pace with a GTR on a track.. Its not even meant to.. its GT car for heavens sake. Anyone who says it will out do or even keep pace with a GTR on the track is obviously biased or deluded.. end of story.. whats the problem cant handle the FACT a turbo datsun will blow away for more expensive machinery...it will beat any production M Car ever made round a track with ease... An M6's top speed of over 200 mph means nothing and is largely due to gearing and slippery aerodynamics.. The GTR has AWD, massive downforce and (despite its bulk) handles better than most cars costing 2 or 3 times as much.. Now that is one hell of an achievement and should be applauded... If it had german badge the same pundits would amit it is so much more talented than the M6.

I do not disagree with that conclusion. I have am M6 and have tracked it. Its a superb road car, and massively quick. As a track car its woefully underbraked and too bulky. I have no experience with The GT-R so I can't make a valid comparison personally. I use a GT3RS in track regularly and it is an entirely different proposition than the M6. Most tests seem to show the GT-R as way faster than the RS on a long track like the NS but not so much on somewhere like Spa. Given the fact that my RS is substantially quicker than my M6 on track , it seems indisputable that the GT-R is a lot quicker than the M6 in similar circumstances.

No, it started as people were talking about cross country pace on the road. The track angle was dismissed quite quickly as largely irrelevent. The conversation then moved to discussing about blatting across the Mountain course.

In the same vein i think the M6 is amazing and my driving experience of it, is that it is a very very fast car with one of the best engines ever made...pound for pound its the BEST GT car you can buy.

I think we're glossing over things here if we start saying that either are completely wonderful in every way, basing this on the M5 not the M6 by the way, but I don't think with so many parts shared that the M6 is immune from the M5 problems. Both cars are flawed as are most cars.

GTR:

Poor ride quality/refinement
Reliability
Parts, friction materials and maintenance costs/frequency
Stability with standing water
Poor cooling

M6:

Brakes
Lack of torque unless you're buzzing the engine
Jerky SMG
Depreciation
Traction
Reliability

I have driven both of these monsters - more so the M6. The GTR is biblically quick and absolutely nailed down in a corner, but is definitely a licence loser. The M6 is also quick and alot more playful with the back power sliding out of the slower corners making for some very entertaining runs (and some very bemused motorists!). Choosing between them is a matter of taste... that V10 howl, entertainment value and relative practicality or PS3 like instruments and virtually the fastest A2B production car in the business - even more so with the newest 500+hp verson (though £70+k). Either way buy one with a warranty - repairs are very expensive on both.

Best bits for me were:- you can easily drive the GTR with all switches to R (Race) ... and that M6 'M' button for a real day and night car.

BTW GTR is miles better on a track but £2-3k for new no2 filled tyres and £3k new brakes (?#!) - take out a caterham/atom etc which are bags more fun and alot cheaper to run...

I' ve driven them both too. At the same time in fact. The GT-R is so biblically quick that I actually caught AND overtook myself driving the M6 the next day. In case you're wondering us GT-R drivers called that A 2 & THRU M6 2 B.
