RE: Help Keep The Last Vulcan Flying
Discussion
Vulcan 607 is indeed a cracking read. I was in Ascension Island at the time with Nimrods and saw the Vulcans launch for the raids and Im glad to say saw them get back afterwards even though one came back via Montivideo minus its refuel probe!

Just got a copy of Vulcan 607 through the post today after advice on here to read it.
It's worth reading "Sea Harriers over the Falklands" by Sharky Ward. It talks about the effetcs of the Vulcan bombing raid from the Royal Navy's perspective. One of the reasons for the then proposed reduction in the Navy's carrier force was the RAF's insistance that they could provide air cover for Royal Navy operations. The Royal Navy where therefore rather annoyed when during the Falklands war the Navy's Sea Harriers where required to provided air cover for the RAF. In fact the Navy wern't permitted to conduct offensive operations while the RAF where in the area.
The book is probably as pro-Royal Navy as "Vulcan 607" is pro-RAF, but together they provide a intresting view of air-operations during the war.
