Had a brand new GTE coupe finished in silver,it was good for around 120mph
In 4th AND 5th gear on the standard ones smile
hehe

"Fourth... 120mph... and into 5th... 119mph, 118mph, 117mph... bugger it, back into fourth"
Did always feel a little overgeared but having said that was a very relaxed motorway cruiser

A motoring journalist complimented the Ford engineer responsible for one of the later reworkings of the Capri and said he was particularly impressed with how much better the gearchange was now. It was much more direct and precise than on the previous models.

"I'm interested to know how you did it. Is it a new gearbox or have you re-engineered the old one?"
"No, we made the gearstick shorter."

I LOVE Capris, when I was a nipper I remember my dad had a silver 2.0S Auto on a T plate IIRCand my Grandad had a Yellow GXL on an M plate with a vinyl roof, I also recall my grandad having to spend a weekend every so often welding bits of the GXL, ironically it belonged to my dad before he bought the 2.0s

Fond memories of the Capri and for the above reasons it was always my "favourite car" when I was I kid, I had loads of matchbox and corgi models of them too

God this brings back memories, at 17-18 my very first car was a silver 3ltr S Capri. All my mates bought one ltr ford Escort Populars, i was rocking in a 3 liter win tail pipe monster biggrin Its all the "Professionals" fault (early 80s tv show).

Na, not a manual, when you are 18-20 one hand is for steering and the other is in some young lady's groin or on her thigh

There was nothing wrong with the capri still a nice looking motor and when you come to way it up was more or less the same as a Cortina under the skin

Only last year while working in a customers house, venturing into their garage revealed a black Capri 2.0S. Professionals-style stipes et al. Been her daughters for the last 10 years, unused properly for the last 5 years but MOT'd and run for half a day through those 5 years. £800!!!!!! I stupidly have / had nowhere to put it..... I think it is probobly still there :-)

That mk3 would be ripe for an engine conversion of some sort. A pinto lump or Cosworth? Hmm smile
My thoughts exactly! Something American and massive, then spend your Sundays at the pod grinning like an idiot..

put my 24v one up for sale briefly about a year ago then took it down again. it's sat in the f***ing garage ever since. lovely to look at but so conspicuous. just never use it anymore.

great cars, but you wouldn't want it as a daily, theyre just too old now.

would remove the 24v badge and put a 1.6L badge in its place!

i put it up for either 2500 or 3000, can't remember now. i've owned it for 12 years and built it myself pretty much. it does get a lot of smiles but its so loud.

think i may be beginning to get old.

Its the best answer to a British muscle car in my opinion. Maybe not the 4 cylinder variants
