A 'proper' Bugatti?
That would be a Bugatti made by Bugatti not VW's interpritation of what Bug would be producing had they continued making cars 60 years after Ettore died. . . . . . I doubt Ettore would consider the Veyrons Pur Sanghairykrishna said:

One word "Ultima" it might not have been official but we all know it has gone around there faster than anything else by a long margin and at a fraction of the price
The Ultima was on slicks. Makes it considerably less impressive.http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/Content.aspx?f=recor...

Im no fan of Top Gear but it was not over impressive on the test track. the tyres were screaming for mercy as i recall and if the drag race between the Bugatti and the F1 had been over 1/4 mile as is the norm it would have been a complete miss match in the F1s favour. the bugatti only pulled ahead when its higher top speed came into play
Wasn't overly impressive? What would have been impressive?Tyres screaming for mercy? On the limit of grip?! Never...
Page 5 for the first mention of the Ultima. I was becoming slightly concerned that a whole Veyron (or other supercar) thread might pass without the inevitable Hinckley-based kit car comparison, but I'm delighted to see that when the chips were down PH delivered in spades.

But the number to end all numbers concerning the Super Sport, the one that will stop you in your tracks and make you either laugh or cry, is this; in the same time that it takes a McLaren F1 to get from rest to 200mph, the Veyron SS can go from zero to 200mph and back again – and then do zero to 60mph as well. Think about that for a moment – and then think about it for a little while longer.
F**king hell!If you launch a McF1 and get it upto 110mph as just as you do that you pass a Veyron which has just launched - it will beat you to 200mph
THAT - ladies and gentlemen - is how utterly and mind-bendingly fast this thing is and the SS is quicker (quite a bit quicker it seems).

Just a furthur note to all those on here going on about the Ultima havin slicks. When it was on road tyres it still went around over three seconds quicker than the veyron, but maybe the Stig was having a bad day with the Bugatti LOL

At this point I'm embarrassed for you.
I must admit that I still watch the Chris Harris vid and salivate every so often

Must be nice to have an uprated version on test.

And of course he's going to be as bonkers gung-ho in a million pounds worth of Bug as he was in the R500 or an Ultima.Edited by BILL PAYER on Saturday 30th October 00:59
I have to say that I haven't really got theBug up to now, but some of the figures are truly mind boggling.

But yes, the Ultima and Veyron are not really comparable.

I have to confess somewhat sadly as an owner that Ferrari's are still made like dog-crap. When will they learn to engineer quality?
Are Lamborghini the same?Example - The old 6.2 Murci I used to run, needed to have the sunglass holder in the ceiling taped up to stop falling open under hard braking. FFS! The interior headline panel where it met the scissor doors would come off if you shut the door too hard. The gas pistons that raised the doors started to fail, the switches didn't work after some time and the front suspension lift failed and then failed again.... The Germans may address this going forward, but the Italians are NOT interested. They may improve but they'll NEVER produce a quality product because the rest of world leaves them behind whenever they progress making their efforts look amateur.
Next time you're around an Enzo, just have a close look at the way the rear engine lid meets the rest of the rear of the car. A well known owner (plate EN20) had two new engine covers and had a HUGE ruckus with Italy because he couldn't believe that they were prepared to finish a car like that - his car had a couple of inch gap ....An absolute disgrace. This is a car that cost £420,000 new UK list. Shocking.
I know I'm not supposed to care (it's all about speed, involvement blah blah) but when your pal shows you his CGT or you jump into a Bugatti at a showroom, the Ferrari/Lamborghini's feel a bit "fake-rolex" if you know what I meant.
That's why the Bugatti Veyron is so compelling for those how can afford it. A QUALITY supercar, the first since the McLaren F1.
P.S. The F50 is a rare Ferrari exception. Made without compromise. Felt quality!

VAG are marketing the Veyron as the fastest car in the world, which in real world terms when you start to put bends and corners into the equasion, it most certainly is not. Its the same situation in the motorcycle world where you have fast 1300cc plus super tourers, with very high top speeds that can easily be bested around a cicuit or on twisty road by machines of half the capacity, Too many peple on here confuse top speed with performance, they are two very different matters, at the end of the day its all about balance, speed, handling ,braking .
I don't think Bugatti claimed it to be the "fastest car on a twisty road", do you?
It's the fastest meaning a car with the highest proven top speed. Owing to your constant quoting of top gear you must have seen the top speed verified, both times.
It is a simply stupendously fast, high quality car which has yet to be beaten for sheer pace in a straight line. Bugatti were not going for Ferrari, they created without trying a niche "Hypercar" sector. It is only now cars of quality (NOT specials with stripped interiors based on American V8s) are catching up and want a piece of the £1m Hypercar sector. Notice how much £500,000+ cars there are now?
While it's not everyone's taste, you simply cannot deny its a history making car and is hardly "soulless". I wonder if it was made in Italy would people be saying the same comment

It's well known that Porsche build is quality, but I had assumed under Audi ownership that Lambo's quality would increase instantly.
Seems Bugatti's niche in the car market is pretty much ingrained, in that case.
