its great to read all this info about these cars, such an unusual car and shows how todays family saloons lack imagination.

Kitchski, you sound like you know your stuff, so it's probably my memory failing, but I didn't think Citroen actually sold any of the Birotors - weren't they on some sort of lease scheme?
You may well be right there, whether they actually sold them or leased them I'm not 100% sure. I know they took the majority of them back and cubed 'em though. Well, except the one I saw at a show a few years back, which then buzzed past us on the M1 on route home. He wasn't hanging around - three figure speeds I'd say. Brave, considering you can't buy any engine parts for them!

I owned a CX 2400 auto for about 4 years in the early 90s. Loved it and took friends and myself on many long trips sur le continent and around the UK in comfort and style.

The interior was a cross between Sting Ray and Fire Ball XL5 and the seats from Star Trek TNG.

Shame it rusted away.

I remember the CX 25 GTI turbo had one of the longest badges on the rear of a car I have ever seen, glad they exist but wouldn't want to own one!

Great SOTW!, Can you think of a better way to travel your family or 7 of mates about?, It would stand out in the supermaket car park amongst all the S Max/Scenic/Zafria parked in it wouldn't it!.

Or just add another set of wheels FTW!

You'd be in for a bit of disappointment then - according to that owner's site the CX Loadrunner was only a four-seater, with a standard-fit LPG tank where the middle rear seat was on the normal car. As far as I can tell it was aimed more at the commercial market than families.

Strange, while looking for something to read on the bog over breakfast this morning, I found a copy of Fast Lane from August 1988 - on the cover was French 308 styling ripoff, the MVS Venturi, boldly sporting a pair of CX door mirrors.

Coincidence?

Errm, yes.

i had a ride in a turbo 2 around 10 years ago, and at the time it did feel silly quick for the size of the car!

I have a real soft spot for these, I will never forget going regularly to a nightclub near Manchester airport, there were three older ladies, probably 40's/50's who used to rock up trying to look like very young Lamb but only managing scary Mutton, they used to come in one of these and many a young man, including my mate Paul had the full Citroen rear space experience..... apparently they car smelt like a box of fisheads, ewww.

I think, one of these with some mental, modern 4 cyl turbo would make an immense sleeper or paint it matt black, proper lads night out car.

Ah, the memories.... Looks odd, is actually very ergonomically effective once you get used to it. The finger-tip rocker switches for the indicators etc., are great - non-self-cancelling indicators too... after a decade or more since I last drove a CX, I still can't abide self cancelling indicators..!

And thanks from me too - things I didn't know that I didn't know.

The pushrod iron engine was actually quite nice, in an antedeluvian fashion, but it was a let down for the rest of the car really, even in turbo form.

Yep they're the one of the most useless inventions, constantly having to turn the things on again.

We had one of these back in the early 80's and my brothers and I all loved it.
It was a Safari - it had sun blinds for the passengers which was 'amazing' back then.
The horn button on the dash was cool - it was actually two switches in one.
Press it halfway for twin standard electric horns and then fully down for those and the twin air horns!!

Apparently it catered for town and country driving.

A big fkin zero. I hated these then and still do now. Horrible disgusting ugly nasty cars. This is why i hated citroen back in the 80's. When it came to the 90's it was ok, as they started to get rid of the stupid ugly designs. But they came back again after the 2000's.
