'aspirational SUV', 'emotional appeal', sounds like they've perfected the art of marketing bullst, I bet it sells by the bucketload - soon to be seen parked outside every second house on a new build estate near you.
£30k for a front wheel drive hatchback, or you could stop caring what the neighbours think and buy a Nissan Qashqai or similar for half the price.
I agree totally. But for some women, image is everything. They'll get into 30k worth of debt for this if they can (Which is not a done deal at all with the economy the way it is)£30k for a front wheel drive hatchback, or you could stop caring what the neighbours think and buy a Nissan Qashqai or similar for half the price.
The one with the red, black pillers and a white roof looks like a big MINI.
I dont like the fake-ness of this car and oh its a Range Rover, youve made it big son! You drive a Range Rover like rich people. Thats just tacky branding and advertising. I would be happier if it was aspirational and branded a Land rover.
However I really like the car.

If the 4wd system is up to the job (and if you can get tyres that work off-road for those giant rims) then the more premium versions will be quite impressive.
The regular tyres will probably be fine... Even with just standard rubber, you'd be amazed at where even the Freelander will go. ;-)M

Keeping narrow-vision accountants out of the equation, Pure 2wd is a step too far.
I don't see why really. Yes Range Rovers have always been capable off-road, but 90% of them never go off-road so why force customers to have a 4wd system with all the disadvantages it brings if they don't want it? But, as i've already said in my post, it'll be all show and no go (from a 4x4 perspective). Not even an electronically switchable system.
It will genuinely be a Range Rover that can't tackle the 'Range'. That doesn't work for me.

A real baby Range Rover??
this one is the real stuff , but it cost a bit more,
it comes in all sorts of race colours and a proper off road pedigree as well.
the LRX is easily one of the best looking 4x4's ever.

journos have been let out in the new fwd freelander (which has similar class leading performance to this) and:autocar said:
It may only have two driven wheels, but it is surprisingly able in the rough

as for the bellend comparing this to a nissan..

I don't know if I like it, I do know they are going to sellselling loads of them...
EFAWe ordered Mrs Digga's in June and were 8th on the dealers list, even then....
Whether it will be a 'keeper' or not is, for me, a moot point.
IMHO if it's executed well enough, it doesn't matter if it's smaller than Range Rovers we're used to. Being of the same size a the Nissan Quasimodo or whatever is of no consequence.
BMWs smaller saloons and hatches - 1 and 3 series - prove that small cars can be done without compromising the brand, if they're done well. In the case of the 3 series, it's a compact salloon/estate/coupe/convertable of the same rough proportions as offerings from lesser manufacturers, but does distinguish itself on it's own merits.
