Love it but would never buy one!
With respect to build quality, I hear TATA are proposing moving manufacturing to India, could be interetsting.

You've either misheard or you;ve been listening to idiots.

JLR has been all over the press recently, recruiting, keeping existing UK sites etc. etc. Google it.

As for build quality; have a gander on the user reviews for BMW X5s on the What Car website....

I see Gerry McGovern had a hand in designing this car. Well, let me tell you a little story about Gerry in my childhood. I was obsessed with Gerry (he said once that he preferred model cars to girlfriends) which as a twelve year old boy I agreed with. And then in the same article he said how the designers at Rover used to come into work on Saturday mornings to design the MGF in their spare time because they were so passionate about it. I thought WOW, great guys, and I nearly convinced my dad to buy a MGF because of this (got as far as a test drive in 1995 but then Dad said there was no space for his legs).

Anyways, life moved on, I realised the MX-5 was a better car in everyway and eventually bought one of them age 25 when I could have equally got the MGF. Then I went to a talk about the design of a new car (can't remember which one) and asked Gerry from the audience, "What was the Saturday morning club like?" Gerry was like, "What?" and I told him what I had heard about their deep passion for coming in at the weekends to design the icon that was the MGF. He flat out refused to admit the Saturday Morning club ever existed and wondered what I was talking about.

I was and still am gutted about that and no longer do I believe Gerry is a passionate designer, just a nine to fiver who'll design anything that makes money (see 5 door baby Range Rover).

Still, I am looking forward to Santa coming in a couple of months!
Err, I think the Saturday Morning club were responsible for the XJ220 and 6R4, having completed those I can't imagine how any sort of passion could have been mustered for the MGF. Not surprised he's gone into denial!!!

this one is the real stuff , but it cost a bit more,

it comes in all sorts of race colours and a proper off road pedigree as well.
the LRX is easily one of the best looking 4x4's ever.

That seems to be an off roader but doesn't appear to have any suspension travel.

I do like the design of this car, I remember the concept a few year ago (2008) at Excel motor show which I took a pic of.

Still seems to have stay true to this design. Only thing that puts me off this as someone said, the dopey yummy mummy type driver complete with baby on board sticker in the back window and they drive like a jack ass.

Is this jokers corner? Terrible car.
Nope, it's just a quite corner for PHers with an interest in one of Britain's premium automotive brands.

Already registered my interest with my local dealer for one of these. If i'm not in the country i'll sell it on, but if we are i'm really looking forward to owning this baby RR.

I'm assuming from the photos (PH can you confirm...) that the one with the white roof and big silver bit on the front bumper is the higher spec model?

Because i think the one with the normal bumper and body colour roof is a much better looking vehicle.
Beefmeister, the white roof version is in Dynamic trim, as opposed to Pure or Premium. You get the deeper body-colour sides, slightly deeper body-colour bumper and that tiddly little extra rear spoiler extension - also visible in these pics. It's going to be available with any of the engines and/or interiors I think, so you can mix and match.

Definately starting to appeal a bit although mixed about the branding, better without Beckham involved in the article at all.

Mini comparisons cannot be helped due to the white roof and Cooper S wheels they seem to have fitted.

This has to be done to ensure the survival of the company and lets hope they spin off into some other great niches. (Modern Suzuki SJ with LR badges mostly made in India to keep costs down etc.... )

Don't like it, but then I'm not in their target demographic so I doubt they'll lose sleep over my antipathy.

besides.. what would you suggest they do? as the choice is to do what they are doing, or to be prevented from selling cars alltogether due to forthcoming legislation
Having a soft-roader electronic 4wd system wouldn't ruin their emmissions targets.

This 2wd model is driven by the fact they believe they don't need 4wd, with the likely target audience. Looking at it that way, they're probably right. All depends how precious you are about a brand.

That interior looks low rent and the price of this LR take on a RAV4 will be 40k+ once specced.

If you think that looks low-rent you must drive either a Rolls Phantom or a Veyron...

Neither old boy, but that interior doesn't appeal.

Love it.

Superb looks that are almost identical to the white concept car posted above, decent interior and good engines. Wonder how many will be ordered in that red shade as it's lovely. Or the new dark blue on the FFRR, with a black roof may look nice as well.

Hopefully the 4x4 versions will still be decent off road like the rest of the range.
