6 posts in 7 months, and this is the most constructive comment you can come up with? Good effort, well done. rolleyes
Sorry, didn't realise that there was a quota I had to fill - It was just a bit of sarcy humour while I had a second at work... And no, I'm not a badge snob. I'm just not sure where the Seat brand really fits in the grand scheme of things. Would rather have a Renaultsport or happily spend the extra on a Focus RS / VW...

why is that an issue.... badge snob?

These are so underated, which is fine, it means that in a couple of years time these will be little bargains especially compared to Golf GTIs, Focus, Meganes an other hot hatches.

I recal the previous Cupra R being considerably quicker (2.5s iirc around Evo track) compared to a mk5 golf and something like 0.2s slower than a S3 which has more power an 4wd. The Seat engineers are pretty dam good at setting up suspension an geometry to make these cars surprising amounts of FUN, yes FUN,something PH seems to think VAG group are incapable of doing.

Actually I quite like SEAT, and for someone like me that doesn’t have as much money to spend on cars as I’d like (see my garage), having alternatives from SEAT & Skoda to choose from is great. We were looking at Tourans, Golf+ & tiguans etc for my wife, but soon realised we could get an altea or Octavia estate for less money, yet more or less the same car & arguably less boring…

So far life with our Altea has been great, ok depreciation’s not as good as VW, but doesn’t really matter as we intend to keep it.

Not too sure about the speakers on this cupra!!?? Love the seat coverings though!

I use to have an FR derv Seat - brilliant car bar the ride was to stiff and unforgiving. Love the brand - problem is this, they seem to hold well in value terms but dont sell very well. Working completely against supply and demand theroy, friends in the car trade never touch them as they have real problems trying to sell them on.....

...but they maintain a high value....wierd huh?

I think you've just explained that Seat follows normal supply and demand theory.

If they are not selling, the price is too high. The fact that you see them at a high price but they don't sell, tells you the price needs to drop (which in the real world gives the higher depreciation people really see).

I like the principle of the car, I just don't like the current Seat styling cues. I'm sure it's a great car, but it wouldn't make me feel happy if I glanced out of the window and saw it sitting on the drive.

I used to have a previous model Cupra R 210, the car drove very well, the quality seemed OK, it was well equipped compared to VW or Audi. I replaced it in 2007, did I consider the newer model - no chance.

The dealer support was appalling & plumbed new depths. This was not limited to one dealership but seemed to be the customer care model for all I tried. Gave the impression of 'we've sold you the car - now F*** off'. Totally put me off going anywhere near SEAT again. Not surprised they have some difficulties.

Sadly it's not April 1 and Pete's not known for his practical jokes.

So I fear not. SEAT really have become a joke.

Oh - the wife's Golf GTi is the same re: exhaust - sounds quite nice from outside (still a muted turbo-4, but some character), but sounds dull and near-inaudible from inside, as if VW were afraid to let the driver hear anything at all...

also worth noting in the focus st there is a plastic pipe that goes from the engine bay to the back of the dashboard for the sole purpose of making it warble! I had an ST and removed the pipe and it sounded like a 2 litre 4 pot, put the pipe back and the lovely warble came back! so a bit of a gimmick but it does actually work, i think ford called it engine acoustics!!!! i imagine seat are on the same path here

American GTI's had a sound pipe installed from the engine into the bulkhead to generate more noise. Now dropped because it was making too much noise, can't please everyone!

On the Focus ST the 5-pot sound is further attenuated by a tube connecting the engine and bulkhead. A "symposer" I think the OEM's call 'em wink

When will VAG free up those poor soles at Seat to deliver the best hot hatch the VAG group can devise!

That same engine in my S3, whilst lugging around a Quattro system can deliver up a sub 6 second 0-60moh run.

My wife's Leon Fr feels so much more sepcial than the S3.....if only Seat were able to turn up the wick, drop in 4WD, drop the gearing a litte....what a car that would be.......

Everytime I look at Seat I just feel sorry for them. Worst of all VAG are kicking them to make some money, maybe they would if they were allowed!

It must be a struggle for VW group to make so many "different" cars / brands in this sector with so many identical parts fill a price and performance range that runs from <£15k Seat / Skoda to >£40k in a specd up VW / Audi.

Artificial noise generators in cars should be the preserve of Electric cars, for pedestrian safety. Which idiot is running the show at Seat's sports division to accept this cop-out?

problem is i think seat would like to supply more, very low numbers - we just dont buy enough in this country. It still doesnt explain high second hand values if no-one is buying them/they are harder to sell....

I remember specing my company FR, and went to audi about the A3 - it was massively overpriced and the leon came with everything on it....same car in principle..

I think that The Leon R has the same acoustic gizmo as my Cupra, which is at the back of the dashboard and amplifies REAL engine sounds as the induction noise in higher revs.It is probably similar in principle as the pipe in the Focus ST.

So who told you about this speakers in the footwell nonsense?

About the second-hand values...I don't know if they are hard sell, but residuals are worse than VW and better than Renault,Ford and Vauxhall.

Is there a video out of this feature? I'd at least be interested to see/hear it myself... Don't agree with it however!
