Good article. Still not sure about the car*, but amusingly written and has already sparked off the desired-for debate.

JRG is an old phrase, and no more offensive than many others used on this forum or in the motor trade.

* I too prefer the older-but-better-resolved Soarer.

"You know you want to" ?! No, I bloody don't !

Perceived reliability and low purchase price are the only things going for these, they're ugly, vulgar, nasty inside, wobbly to drive and have an image perfect for the Golf Course.

I'd rather one of these, thankyouplease...
Not sticking up for the SC but the SL of that vintage is mostly fit for drug dealers, chrome wheels and bling.

Innit.

Never ever saw the appeal of these. I think they were designed around a boat from memory?. A few non-car mates raved about them when they were launched as I remember they did with the Ford Probe... This looks more like an anal probe IMO.

It really is a visual offence, too far.

Get the LS430 instead; slab sided but for luxobarge duties, unmatched.

Love it. But I do have a thing for Japanese stuff. Nissan Gloria Turbo, Toyota Mark X, Toyota Crown Athlete, Honda Legend. Oh yes. Trying to get my wife to buy something Japanese and interesting, but oh no, she wants a Mini.

I take back my first post. TCF has a bloody good point - there is no reason to buy the Lexus if you can get this for the same money:

Or if you absolutely must have the V8:

40,000 miles!
Granted the SL is much better looking (admittedly not a difficult contest when the opponent is the SC430) and you wouldn't feel like such a muppet in it but you also know that will be a world of financial pain when something expensive goes wrong (i.e. anything) and being a Merc of that era, it most likely will.

The obvious solution is to just go for the LS430 sedan, they are cheaper, don't look as stupid and plenty of space in the back for the two extra hookers you can now afford instead of paying more for something that is pretty much the same except ugly, embarrassing to be seen in and with no interior space.

I thought it was more a question of "Models introduced between 98 and 03", rather than "cars built between 98 and 03" though.

It is as racist as British Racing Green.

You're not surmising are you that Jewish people are some how related to Gold, and then therefore this is a racist term? Because that would be racist. hehe

"Jewish Racing gold?"

WTF? mad
It's a very common term. It's a take on British Racing Green, with Gold being a stereotypical Jewish colour. It seems to be perfectly accepted over here but in America causes offence, though from what I can make out, only because the word Jewish is featured. None of the implication is thought negative
Ahh it's a new one for me and I used to live in the UK. As for me, I wouldn't have a gold car if you paid me.
I know quite a few bible shortners who would so the term is quite apt
