The Brits have a funny idea about cars, their shapes and what is or is not attractive. maybe for the Uk roads this is not a great car, but in the US it is a serious cruiser and Lexus make the best cars re build quality bar none...just look at th JD Powers Awards.

This may not be a PH car but I would take one over a TVR any days of the week in any country of the world. The SC is beautifully asembled, will work forever, does what its designers intended it to do, will start and stop without any problems and who when sitting in a car looks at the outside??

67,000 buyers cannot all be blind. It is a huge seller in California, Florida and NY....and Americans spend more on cars than the Brits when it comes to luxury!!

'Under the bonnet, a surpassingly refined and bulletproof 4.3-litre engine.'

Pardon? What does that even mean?

It sounds like eBay listing carp to me.

'Buy now while stocks last.'

Errrr.......

Or just wait a few more weeks for a few thousand more public sector workers to join the end of the unemployment queue, the fuel costs to bite and people start realising how many things they buy have VAT on them and see stylish cars that like burning fuel drop even more in value?

I've never understood why Lexus has never been bigger with the UK plublic... They clearly make very good cars... always tops with the consumer ratings for reliability... In my view, they are German quality, with japanese costs and relaibility... I'll admit that they all do seem to be a bit "80's", but you will never hear an owner say anything but positive comments...
One word - Partridge. I'm not saying thats right... Just... Partridge.

Still going?

There are many platforms far worse than the SC430 that people on here have chosen to work and improve upon? When these start hitting <5K they will be ripe for a bit of fettling.

Looked at one of these earlier in the year for the boss, after getting pissed off with looking at rusty clk's.But there was no room in the back even for kids and if she was going to have 2+1 we would rather have had an XK8(ended up with a sensible CLK!).
As well as Partridge connections I seem to remember Angus Deyton(sp?) being pictured in an SC during his charlie and rental scandal a few years ago,no such thing as bad publicity?

He does have one, however he has a Lexus badge sticking up on the front of the bonnet, (like a Roller) and it looks stupid.

NO! you don't want to.

Why? Its only got one thing going for it....The engine.

Now we all like big engines here, but its only satisfying if its attached to something that has at least one of the following attributes: Look good, look inoffensive or can handle.

Just imagine pulling up at the lights in the SC430 and looking at your refelction in the shop window.

Anyone here want to be seen in a metalic hearing aid beige blob-o'barge as it gently rocks on its waterbed spec suspension?

There...your cured. Now away with the silly thoughts and do better with that 5K.

SL 500, XJC V12 ,or a bad Stag? Drop 2 cyls & hop into a choped BMW or Audi, any of these are more credible!

For me 5K = Audi S8 as a value for money V8. My last D2 S8 I had did 180K, its replacement now has 166K on. I swapped depreciation for petrol...& a whole lot more!

Still fairly expensive - hit £5k or less, and then maybe, just maybe would look at one.
Styling wise - it's not pleasing the eyes.

I'll give PH a thumbs up for this article. It was genuinely amusing and, politically correct or not, who cares; the more jovial articles the better.

As for the car, a V8 they may have but i just cant get past the ugliness and all that wood trim!! Still, they may well be very good for what they are designed for; wafting on the boulevards of U.S coastal towns

For the uk, a mk1 TT convertible or a good 'ol TVR (compared only in the same breath as one is for cruising, the other for V8 bruising) would be a much better choice

Have owned an SC for over 4 years now and have no plans to sell it.

There is nothing better for wafting around in quiet luxury than this car.
Effortless refined engine, one of the best interiors, loads of toys, extremely rare and utterly bomb proof. Lexus dealers are a joy!

The car is badly misunderstood by UK journos. It is not designed for throwing round the ring. I use my GTR for that...

To answer the question about using it in the snow it's nearly as bad as a 3 series...
Aaah, but why should we listen to you when we are told what to think by said UK "journos" , especially the Top Gear Fab 3 ?

After all, you've only lived with the car for 4 years.

I've had a few of this one's previous incarnation the Soarer which was a lovely car I had a V8 and a TT - this just doesn't float my boat though I think if you turned this upside down this may resemble one. Probably great engine etc but ugly and not in a good way!!

PERFORMANCE
SHARP HANDLING
GOOD LOOKS
RESIDUAL VALUE
ATTRACTIVE INTERIOR

these are just some of the things this car does not have. The whole point of a car of this type is that as well as being a quality car it needs to be good looking and a bit spesh, much like a Merc SL..

That is just a wobbly fat turd with interior (apart froom the fake wood and toys) that looks like it came from a old toyota carina

AVOID, unless you look like phil collins, if you do though its the car for you wink

If the answer is Tom O'Connor, you could add "daughter-in law the lovely Denise Lewis - check" to the questions!

Jewish Racing Gold?

Should anyone be using that expression if they don't know what it means?

Surely it's as bad as elected representatives not knowing that the 45 minute warning related to battlefield munitions not ICBMs?

I'm trying to think of another description for a car colour and all I can think of is 90 day white and dog knob red used to describe the Porsche colour Guards Red.

I don't think it's political correctness, it's more a case of people repeating a term that they don't know the definition of.

I think Theo Paphitis used it to describe Peter Jones' Maybach on Top Gear FWIW.

Hear aid beige has to my favorite colour/description.
