Awesome.

Top shedding this week guys. Big V8 st-heaps are WAY more interesting than a rather well-presented 520i or whatever. Love it.

A true waste of minerals and engineering potential.

It's not a car, it is a pile of wasted opportunity!

Great SOTW, I wouldn't be surprised if it did end up on the oval though, They are built like tanks and banger boys will pay good money for something different, look at that Jaguar XK recently.

Also I'm not sure if it is tax exempt as you say, If it's a 1973 model then it will registered after the 1/1/1973 cut of point unless you can prove it was built in 1972 by the manufacturer.

Just checked, it is a 1972 model so it is tax free.

The vehicle details for AUF 215K are:

Date of Liability 01 06 2011
Date of First Registration 23 06 2003
Year of Manufacture 1972
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 5000CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol/Gas
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLACK

My Dad inherited a 1976 Kingswood a few years ago ( he lives in Oz) it was a six cylinder auto with no power steering. Ex taxi. He kept if for six months and sold it. Had a queue of Holden enthusiasts round the block kicking the tyres!

I quite like it, sure its a manky old heap that probably wasnt that great when new but it would be a shame to destroy something like that, as, they arent making any more, potentially the seller could get more sending it back to some car nut in oz if they are getting scarce, it may be st but its out st !

Pity its not a saloon, looks ripe for a black/white KLF/Blues brothers style shabby Yank Police car look.

I was just thinking that ...

See, I put the Maser in the garage for the winter and you PH people keep giving me ideas to fill the space on my driveway, stop it!

I very nearly bought a Ute version of this when I was in Aus for a year as a runabout, and while the Subaru I got instead was bulletproof there's still a twinge of regret that I didn't do the "V8 thing".

Proper waftability in this old thing. Great shedding.

This would have been a perfect first car. It would teach you how to park, not be terribly fast and has enough room in the boot for er, erm, some yoga based activities.

And it's got a proper engine and that's all you need.

Great shed.

IIRC, a chap over on my preferred forum was considering this and I can't blame him at all. Loads of 70's, V8, RWD, barge fun without the LHD drawbacks. smile

I love it.

Best shed in ages.
just think of it this way, your not be buying the car, your buying a 5L V8! that just happens to have a rusty shell to drag around.

I cant believe nobody's picked up on them saying it's got an American engine in it. The 308 was 100% Australian designed and built.

It's a piece of s***. The best thing to do with this shed is to park it down the garden and use it as such.

I grew up in NZ and my aunt had one of these... It was a vast car especially parked next to my parents mini cooper and BMW 2002.
The estate is quoted as 4826mm long, which is about the same as a new Mondeo estate.

http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/holden_HQ_tec...

No doubt it seemed vast back in the 70s, but these days I don't think it would look particularly huge on our roads.
True, should have put "to me it seemed a vast car especially parked next to mini cooper....."

Probably wouldn't look large parked next to a 2010 Mini Countryman!

240hp from a 5.0 V8 in the early 70's isn't bad at all.

Mercedes weren't putting out much more in this era were they?

I like it. I bet it makes an ace noise. I'm currently tasked with finding the OH a cheap to run runabout for about a grand... how much trouble would I get in! "But it has lpg. Very cheap to fill up"

In the late 1990s I bought this '72 Chrysler Valiant 5.2 V8 for £500. Went well, not a lot of rust but steering as vague as a politician's promises.

Splitting hairs but the V8 is a Holden not a Chev , something the Australians stopped making a while back ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_V8_engine ... reliable enough but harder to source parts than an American Chev
