Very sorry to hear OP frown I too had my own car vandalised some years back. Every panel was paint strippered, paint was literally sliding down the panels. This was a personal attack, although i can never prove this.

From the description of your damage, this wasn't just a random attack as someone took time (which is more risk) to fully damage your car, especially the slashing of a tyre which in my mind makes it more so.If your tyre wasn't totally flat when you drove off, then perhaps the damage wasn't caused that long before you returned to the car? Think again, it may have been as simple as a 'look' you gave someone not long before parking, maybe something very minor (to you) but personal to the other party?

I'm sure you'll have this sorted soon and you can get on with things, but attacks like this always leave a scar in your mind unfortunately but time, as always will heal. Good luck.

Back when I lived in Coventry we managed to live for two years parking three cars on the road with very little in terms of vandalism - I once came back with a traffic cone on the car but that doesn't count.

Parked it on a drive in the back garden at a later house I moved to and within three weeks some idiots had put one of those big metal building site fences ontop of the roof. There's absolutely no way I would have been able to lift it up off the roof alone without furthering the damage. The car's value has now duly reduced. I think if it had been a grudge or something I would have understood - it is a rather average diesel hatchback parked in a private drive and not near anybody's house to wake them up if ever I came in late so I can only assume it is drunken or mindless vandalism.

The damage to the D3 is considerably worse than the damage to mine - I don't understand why people do it, especially if they're not around when you find the car to gauge your reaction.

Best of luck getting it sorted, hope they catch whoever did it.

I've re-traced my driving as far back as I can, the roads were very quiet last night, there was no one around. It could be a case of mistaken identity..

Similar thing happened to me years ago. My car was keyed on most panels by a 50y/o woman. She thought I parked in "her" spot. But it was just a street and she had a driveway at her house. Anyways my friend who was her neighbour spotted her. Cops did nothing. But I have the car still. Will be changing next year and the car I have is going to be put in the exact same place with full tax and insurance. She can scratch it everyday for a year then the cow.
Why do you want her to do that? Odd.
I assume he means the old car, which she originally keyed for parking in 'her' spot.

That should piss her right off - to make it worse, paint it some horrid bright garish colour, maybe with spots etc and park it there.
Yeah it's an old saxo. Worthless. But I'll probably never do it. Good ideas though!

Real scum people who can even bring themselves to do something like this to someones pride and joy. Sorry to hear about this OP. Knowing this sort of behaviour still takes place is very worrying - especially for people with any insurance cover other than comprehensive.

Disgusting. Cracking car as well.

Re. the tyre, I know of somebody that claimed when something similar happened to him, and he got the money back for the tyre too.

Really feel for you. Cracking car and just wrong on so many levels.

What's even worse is that whoever did it obviously knew what it was!!

Sorry to see this must be so frustrating.

It might be worth going back to see if any other cars touched, if it was only your car I'd be tempted to park it there again with a hidden cctv to see if the same person comes back and does it again - they went to a lot of trouble to go round your car both sides and a tyre, not just a casual walking past scratch.

Then again probably best to just move on and let the insurance deal with it put it down to bad luck.

Sorry to see this, did the police say if anyone else in the same road had the same done to them? Sometimes these absolute s will just walk down a road and key everyones car!

Sorry to hear about this. Regarding your insurance and where it will be fixed, my understanding is that you can choose where your car is repaired, you don't have to have it done in one of their workshops. It's then up to them and your chosen repairer to agree the price for the job.

My missus crashed her mini recently and i am having it repaired at a friend's bodyshop.

Im going to head back today, just waiting on a new tyre.

I actually think the tyre is from hitting a big pot hole just before I parked, I cant see any slash or cut on it.

Grrrrrrrr What are these people thinking, how do they even have the balls to do this!

Probably because nothing will happen to them if they get caught

I got to Chiswick quite often through work..am on my way there shortly!! Not been at night very often, but you still don't expect that to happen there.

I think the most likely situation is that a few of them were walking down the street and did it. Seems a bit excessive for one person to do, whether it was random or parking related. Just speculation.

The more I think about it, its more likely to be a random event.

I thoroughly cleaned the car a few hours before, it looked mint in the dreary dark evening, especially compared to every other car, So I'm guessing it stood out.

Rang BMW for a booking, they dont actually do their body work, its outsourced to an 'approved body shop'

Rang the insurance company, they have put me through to their 'Approved Body shop' she tells me they do work for Main dealers too

Bodytec Ltd in Wembley - anyone heard of them?

Thanks again

Its not them, but close by - need to do some digging.

Usual speel - 5 year warranty on the work, if anything is unacceptable, I can send it back

What's the consensus?

Dear me, they did a proper job! That's gut wrenching. Scum.

Trouble is, how do you punish someone who does that? If they're caught, its probalby a fair assumption to say they don't have the inteligence to learn from their mistakes. Decent folk end up picking up the tab.

There is your answer as to the reason why it happened. Jealousy frown
I'm not sure about that. The Alpina is quite subtle, most lay people would just see a regular 3 Series tbh.

The dreadful irony is that if you caught someone in the act and gave them a proper beating, you'd be looking at jail and they most certainly would not. No doubt they are from a disadvantaged home and you have infringed their 'human rights' by parking your expensive German saloon in their neighbourhood. They will of course require therapy and one of those free holidays to recover from such a traumatic experience.

Insist on BMW main dealer to do the work imo. Your car, your choice.
