Interesting that this was fitted to a Mk3. As noted above the Mk3 engine was supposed to be a bit weak and the Mk3.5 was strengthened...
Also interesting that BBR are doing supercharger kits now as opposed to their original turbo kits for the Mk1...
Thats what I thought, expected to see it done to the 3.5 but I guess its abit new for that? Also interesting that BBR are doing supercharger kits now as opposed to their original turbo kits for the Mk1...
Looks perfect. Interesting that the more Lotus announce their intention to move away from their lightweight roots (though I'll reserve true judgement until the new Elise is out), the more manufacturers seem to be filling their place.
Now the MX-5 has Cosworth input it's almost as though they really are building the Elan in all but name. If the new Caterham turns out to be the old Elise we may end up with, in spirit, a four-car Lotus lineup available from companies that aren't Lotus - the Elan (Mazda), Seven (Caterham), Elise S1 (Caterham?) and Eleven (Westfield XI).

5k for a supercharger conversion and people still complain?
I don't know if people realise just how little gain you used to get for so little horsepower when it came to N/A tuning. Flowing heads, porting and polishing, cams, etc all used to be expensive work and for comparatively small gains.£5k all in for this kind of power increase is an absolute bargain.

Well over due!
I spent about the same to get 100 BHP on my S2000
I'll bet this is a hoot to drive now!
+1, I remember driving the first BBR turbo MX-5 back in the day, that was less than 150bhp IIRC but even with that it was brilliant, I just wonder whether there are any traction issues with the new one. I spent about the same to get 100 BHP on my S2000

Hornetrider,
It wasn't an article. I went down to BBR and it came up in conversation. Because of the problems previously had by Cosworth with their mk3, they wanted to use a worst case senario. If they'd have done the conversion on a mk3.5, all the possible customers of the mk3 (biggest customer base) would still be reluctant because they wouldn't have proved out the reliability issues. Hope this helps.

As i understand it, it hasn't been fitted to one yet but the only difference under bonnet is the air tube through the bulkhead. The header tank for the charge cooler sits about where the tube is but i believe this can be relocated.
The cosmetic cover on top of the engine has to be modified but it does on the mk3 as well.
