"Cat & Fiddle"

I'm not a fan any more, sadly. Unfortunately there are enough parts that do land you in licence-losing territory with the average-speed cameras if there's nothing in your way, and to make matters worse, it's usually clogged up with lorries from the nearby quarries.
However, choose just about any one of the roads nearby it and you'll enjoy it. If you're going from Buxton to Manchester, may I recommend the A5004. Feels like some Alpine pass, it's not on a trucking route and you don't tend to get gormless caravanners and Flatcap & Bluerinse on a day trip in their Micra hopelessly bumbling onto it by accident. You'll also pass a couple of interesting garages - one services American muscle cars, the other sells classic exotica and the last time I went past it had a Porsche 914-6 and a 1920s Brooklands-style Bentley special at the front of the showroom.

Cat `n` fiddle, the average speed camera`s are not switched on, they even admitted so in the local paper the other month, saying it was a £750,000 waste of money, they cannot be calibrated for the road due to the `shortcut road` that is between the cameras.
`Long Hill(Buxton-Whaley Bridge) is a decent road with plenty of twisties but that to gets full of bikes, including mine, an does get trucks on it.

I was there this morning, not going over 50mph on the nearly-straight bits isn't exactly a challenge and I didn't see a single lorry. Are you trying to down there at 8:30 on a Monday morning? EDLT said:

I agree that the A5004 is a decent road. It is blessed in that it is the old A6, so they had to build a new A6 for all the trucks, so all the bimblers use the A6 and leave the A5004 for us to enjoy However, choose just about any one of the roads nearby it and you'll enjoy it. Had a T-reg from new for 4 years - had some great drives in it - fantastic little carWe presumed it was coming on the 14s ( didn't even know about the new wheels ) so as we didn't like the 15s one lucky VTR owner got a free upgrade!
