Single car Family thinking of becoming two.....

Currently run a Diesel MPV doing about 20K pa and we're a single car family.
Car is used by Wife for childminding business for approx 3K, the rest is family use of which at least 12K is motorway use. Family is Me, Wife and three kids 14, 12 and 10.
MPV is up for renewal. Having looked at what's available I'm not that impressed. S-Max, new Seat or VW. All come in ~ £24K for a half decent spec machine. I like the Seat but it ain't worth that kind of money.
Got me thinking. How about becoming a two car family!
Keep current MPV which will then be only used for short local journeys and buy a second car for the other ~ 15K we do a year. Has to seat us in comfort and I was thinking large estate. So far I'm thinking 5 series touring, E Class estate, A6 estate. Any others I should be thinking of?
What are opinions of these cars, and what are the must have specs to have. Manual/Auto? Leather? Not bothered about Sat Nav as a Tom Tom is better! My other three requirements are that it's comfortable, has a half decent spec and does 40MPG!
