I bought a car last September which already had a private plate on it, which came with the car. I know want to put my one of my own plates on the car, however do I need to put the current reg on rentention first? It's not a great number and I've no desire to keep it.

At the local branches? Not too sure, I know they did last time I did mine (2006).

A better idea might be to put it on retention and then sell it to the first spacker who rolls up with the readies for it.

Can't be ar$ed. Already got 2 plates on retention, don't want another one. I really don't think the plate is worth putting on retention to be honest. I was thinking more about how long it takes to assign a plate on retention to the car.

BTW, nice shed! biggrin

I'd take whatever that plate valuer says with a very large pinch of salt, it is basically complete bks. Chuck the plate up on ebay for a couple of hundred quid, somebody will buy it and it contributes towards your road tax for the year.
