Not so much which as when. Any motorway becomes st at the weekend when the mouth breathers get on it.

Even the M25 is great when (just shy of) full with sensible commuters.

Regardless, the M69 is delimited isn't it?

Another vote for the M62, once you get past Howden, and have made sure the bib aren't parked on the slip nail it !

Oh sorry, most well behaved ?

Cancel my vote, it's where I misbehave most, best ever ? Indicated 195 on my Hayabusa, yeeehaaaaaaaaar !

Mind you I did get stopped on that section on a FJ1200 for 94mph, but thats anither story, and my own fault for going for it without being able to check the aforementiond sliproad due to an HGV in lane 1 at the critical "look back" point !

it pains me to say this, but the Scottish drive far better than us English!
^^ I beg to differ. The only time I've ever driven M1, M25, M6 (at rush-hour) it was a far more pleasant experience than Scottish rush-hour.

Never noticed a difference between the M25 at rush hour, and the M8 at rush hour. Both the same thing really.

Still stand by my observation that Scottish drivers are better and far more courteous overall.

Try the M90, Edinburgh to Perth, lovely stretch of road, or the M6 toll, always a pleasure to drive on that one biggrin

This!

It's the same in Holland. On weekdays traffic tends to flow much better and progress can be made without to much of a hassle. Weekends are a nightmare though. The average speed of all traffic is lower, people don't (know how to) use their mirrors and pull out at any given moment, wrongly accuse you of tailgating... It's a frigging nightmare.

Traffic reports on the radio even say it: "business and leisure traffic don't mix..." Fridaymorning has the lowest number of traffic jams, friday afternoon the highest. The amount of traffic on a friday afternoon isn't bigger than on a thurdsay or wednesday though rolleyes

M6, north of Lancaster has always been good when I've been on it.

Nice scenery, hardly any MLM and people seem very courteous.

On the rare occasions I venture down south, tend to agree on that, lovely drive, all goes to rat st the further south you get.

I believe so. M69 gets my vote. You can have a fair bit of fun on the Birmingham bound section when you join at the bottom of the M1 as the 3 lanes ahead are often devoid of traffic. A nice sweeping left hander and then (ahem) off you go......

Few places for the blue meanies to hide as well, which means they have to catch you the good old fashioned way.

Not that I have ever done more than 70 mph up to the first bridge..... cop

I can see the A4/A12/A13 junctions (These are the main motorways around the Hague) from my office window and almost without fail, the A13 towards Rotterdam grinds to a halt every evening but always an hour earlier in a Friday......

The contrarian side of me wants to crash into him while questioning his legitimacy. But I'm not like that in real life smile

M48 for me! I drive a two mile stretch of it twice a day for work and it's always empty. When there is traffic on it during the times I use it, 9 out of 10 cars are also headed to/from my office!

The M40 is normally prtty good given the fair amount of traffic it recieves. Always seems to flow well. Relatively little roadworks on it too (which is probably why it is more free flowing).

Another vote for the M62, I keep choosing that over the A1M now as a way back to Doncaster, just because as soon as you get by Xscape its very free flowing, disciplined and not very busy at virtually any time.

Not many plod around their either!

I generally find the following roads pretty painless to drive:
  • A1M, from the M62 to Dishforth; 3/4 lanes of well-behaved high-speed goodness.
  • M5 south of Brizzle, mainly due to lack of traffic
  • The Peterborough Autobahn is always fun
  • M1 north of Sheffield is usually pretty quick and co-operative
  • M18 between the A1 and the M1, going North: vroom vroom

You're not wrong there.
I'd disagree, the M74 from the borders up until the 2-lane section near lanarkshire is superb - big enough for the volume of traffic, few traffic police and I'd say the general standard of driving is high - the pace is good and lane discipline is reasonable (I won't say good, because its not good anywhere in the UK).

In my experience the further south and east you go then the lane discipline progressively deteriorates (probably in line with the rise in traffic volume, creating a compounding deterioration in the driving experience).

I quite like the M74 actually. Only south of Abington once it's 3 lanes though and the top half of the M6 is pretty good too.

Completely agree with the sentiments about the M8. It needs destroyed!

M5's not bad nor are the westerly parts of the M4, but I avoid the M1 and M3 as if my life depended on it.

+1 for M69.

Everytime I've used the M69, drivers seem to use the lanes properly more often than on other motorways.

The M54, although short, I use it daily and only ever a nightmare at the end!
