I'm not sure, those were just the cheapest prices I got for the various cars for a 17 year old living at my address, when using a price comparison website.

Try with different sort of cover, for instance fully comp was cheaper for me with no NCB but with 1 years, TPF+F work out cheaper.

I paid £1,900 TPFT for a 1.4 Puma worth £3k at the age of 17. That was the cheapest quote by about £600, and many companies wouldn't even quote me as they classed a Puma as a "sports car" rolleyes That was with Quinn Direct, although they aren't so competitive since they went into administration!

I'm currently with First Direct Insurance who gave me an extra 10% off as my mum was also insured with them - might be worth checking if his parents insurers do something like this as it could save you a fair amount of money with young lads insurance premiums! I'm currently paying about £650 FC on a Civic Sport at the age of 21 which I don't think is too bad!

I must be lucky then, £992 for me at 19 on a 2 litre turbo Golf. Will be paying similar for a S3 come renewal this year if all goes well!

Admiral are the best IME, put them as a named driver and add a female driver (older the better) as an additional and it should bring the quote down a fair amount!

Is it usual when going to company directly for a quote, they are unable to quote and ask you to telephone a number to confirm details, almost all the companies I have gone to for a quote ask this, I am 17 years old

Adding an older female driver to the policy will take substantial amounts of money off it. Give it a try and see.

had this problem last year with my son. In the end after quotes of between 2k -4k on a 1.2 clio we struck 'lucky' with a wife as main driver and my son as a named driver ( he only uses it twice a week and weekends so no fronting) £1100 with ladybird and thats fully comp aswell, obviously he dosent earn any no claims but he should be glad he drive at all with the current insurance costs
