RE: Latest Hot Ford Falcon Gets Prodrive-Developed V8
Discussion
My family have lived in Australia for almost 25 years. In 1992 I was writing for 'Performance Ford' magazine and managed to borrow a Falcon XR8 from the Ford press office for a few days to drive around in and review.
In 1993 I managed to get a bright red XR6 complete with 'Tickford' wings and quad headlights. Both were manuals as they had been specced by the press office and both wore Victoria number plates which meant that I got cut up in NSW traffic!
Great fun, at the time I thought it would be a good idea to start importing them into the UK, but then you get home and get back on with your day to day life...

0-60 mids 4's
q/mile mid 12's
serious M5 baiting performance!
Now if this was here in the UK and priced at around £35,000 i would have one. However i would have to have it in black or gunmetal grey and those are the crappest alloys i have ever seen, would look tacky on a corsa! I would replace them with a set of BBS LM wheels and then enjoy the V8 soundtrack and the way it would upset a lot of fast beemers, mercs and the odd porsche!
However if they want 40k plus for it... keep it and shove it..and thats coming a fast ford fan!

I picked this up off eBay a couple of months back. Tickford-built 5.0 V8, manual, and a bit 'interesting' at the rear with no weight in the back. Compares nicely with my old Maloo.

Pretty poor BHP and torque compeard to what the US market are geting out of the new engine. They where pushing well over 500bhp however thats with intercooled Superchargers/Procharges.
It's about flexibility. It's easy to get big numbers but the Aus market wants to move the world at 2,000rpm.AdeTuono said:

..hardly spectacular results on power really, the old 3 valve 4.6 mustang engine with a street blower on it kicks out 500+bhp... but IMHO the weakest part of the design is the 10 foot belt driving 10 pumps, idlers and tensioners.. and the supercharger.. on a 15mm wide 10 groove belt.. thats asking for trouble.. we have done half a dozen blower conversions to date on 2005-2009 Mustangs, and the belts just are not up to it for full reliability in the long run..

Seen a few of these around and they look much better in the flesh. The HSV GTS still looks better IMHO but even that is starting to sprout tacky bits. Also, the standard fuel over here is only 91 RON so this engine will probably able to run on this, although will be better on 95 or 98. When this first came out a couple of months ago I read that FPV had only made it slightly more powerful than the HSV but that they would increase this if the GTS power was raised. Incidently, the Ford is a nicer drive - I've driven both and the Holden's build is not up to the Ford's.

Wish they'd sell these over here a la VXR8.
The way fuel prices are going its a category which sadly isnt in growth. Id imagine future owners of these V8's will be 2nd cars as more and more people move to TDI power of smaller an smaller capacity units
If you don't like the panda look then try one of these -

It's the same engine and mostly the same mechanicals (brakes need to be upgraded).
