Sickening, that these cars are wasted, I feel outraged at this.
Its the bullst scrappage scheme.
Note that cars >2001 are subject to the new taxation system. Hence, I think it was a crafty way to remove as many as the older models off the road.

Far too many of those would keep other (older) models running. THAT to me is true green motoring rather than a discounted tin stbox from Korea.
Most are too thick/ignorant to care.

That's like a "Where's Wally?" but with cars - just trying to locate the Fiat Coupe and failing so far...

I do spot a blue Ford Puma though - hopefully not a Racing version, although it looks like the correct colour for it...

Edit: sliver Puma too, top left (and beater to a Puma comment by previous poster...)

Working in the auctions department, I have seen auctions with a must worse selection of vehicles

Red Fiat coupe see bottom of photo, almost first row, slightly to the left.

I agree, but there have been a few good ones which I have seen in the news, and one that I know of personally that was taken away which were very good cars, and crushed.

It just seems like a monumental waste. It would create jobs for the auction houses, and get some money back from those that have been driving illegally for so long.

Even a £500 car which is a good runner is still £500 that someone doesn't have to pay towards scrapping it?
Have you seen the price of scrap at the moment?

I would think that by the time auction fees etc have been paid the most cost effective thing to do is scrap cars with values of up to £500.

Plus, I wouldn't want to buy a car that had been taken off the previous owner in this way. Imagine the hassle if the RFL-dodging scrote who used to own the car came across you!

Its not the car that was uninsured it was the driver.

In my experiance said sctrote has bought himself another POS car before the old one has been crushed and is driving that uninsured.

Yes but this is my point - assuming it was a relatively good car (for arguments sake, £3,500 worth of reasonable spec eurobox), and someone purchased it from an auction house for £2,000 at auction, that is the same car, with profit made and insured on the road.

It only remains uninsured if it is not saleable, and in these times a lot of people are after a cheap reliable runabout, which some of these cars are.

IF it is a stheap, then it gets cubed anyway so no extra loss.

Absolutely 100% correct..

Even the green party admitted that, and I never thought I'd see the day I agreed with them! (I still cant bring myself to give them capitol letters in their name though!)

What's the car behind the blue POS ?

ps - surely the scrappage scheme was purely an exercise in getting new car sales moving - not an environmental one ?

Aslong as they have that shiney new reg to get one up over next door. smile

I wonder what would happen to sales if new cars were issued with totally random plates.

All saying give cars to third world if we done that it isnt free is it, some has to pay the frieght, which would cost loads.

Some of them cars..... its ridiculous, cant believe they scrap them, goverments way of uping car tax, they were doing no one favours or the enviroment.

Old cars are good because they are cheap to buy and you can work on them yourself , they do not have ABS issues and airbag issues and you can easily source used parts from the scrappy, thereby saving even more money. They are also cheaper to tax, for now.

None of this is good for the government as they don't constantly get VAT from all your high tech servicing requirements and electrical issues.

I suspect they like to scrap cars as they want as small a used car market as possible. There is much more money it for them if people are buying newer cars !
All good points, but what about the money the gov. makes from fuel? It makes all those other things seem a bit insignificant!

Strathclyde Police took an Audi Q5 off a local hood under proceeds of crime and regularly roll it out for press and TV. Stickered up like a traffic car but don't think its used on the beat so to speak. On a side note, it always bothers me when Top Gear/5th Gear destroy/ruin a perfectly good car. Be it a shed or not it just doesn't seem right.
You mean Kevin 'gerbil' Carroll's Q7

The idea that these cars are crushed so 'scrotes who drive uninsured' don't continue to drive them is totally ignoring the rest (larger part I hope) of the demographic that wants to buy a cheaper, older car- new drivers, people on low incomes, people who want a second car for occasional use, people who just want to get from a-b cheaply, people who are happy to run around in something older and fix it themselves.

Why should all these people miss out because some people don't play by the rules?
