Unmarked police car with a cheeky private plate

That's 250 quid of taxpayers money wasted, whoever authorised that should be sacked.
What if the plate is worth more than they paid for it? What if, by making the car look even less like a police vehicle, one or two more offending drivers per year get issued tickets?
The number plate could easily be earning its keep and can be sold if (when) money gets really tight.
Besides, the cost is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of the vehicles.

There was some sort of RTA last week up near Warwick nr the M40.
Traffic was being diverted and I noticed one of the cars on the other side of the police tape was a black Golf R32 with the blue strobes flashing behind the grill, with the number plate:
R22 BAN.
Cough....Askmid?Traffic was being diverted and I noticed one of the cars on the other side of the police tape was a black Golf R32 with the blue strobes flashing behind the grill, with the number plate:

Vehicle Make/Model: ALFA ROMEO 156 LUSSO JTD 16V (140)
It was the BAN bit I remember as I thought how ironic it would be to be pulled over doing many leptons by that...
Hmmm, not as if it would be difficult for someone <cough> to keep an online wiki of these plates and their rough locations so those who may occasionally creep over the limit know when to be friendly and courteous to them. Not as if they could then justify spending even more buying different plates to keep drivers unawares? Would they?

maybe a doctors car?
Now that is a good shout. It could well be that. the road was closed and medical/fire were also on the scene so that could well be it.I presume doctors can drive what they like some must have the blues and twos installed.

Must have been a bad one.

What makes that a private plate?
An R32 could not have possibly been issued with an R-prefix plate.Highly unlikely (but not impossible) that it is/was a doctors car. I cannot think of a reason for a doctor to have blues fitted to their private car - normally a green flasher on the roof if anything is fitted at all for a private vehicle. If this was part of their day job then they'd be in a rapid response vehicle of some sort fully marked up.
When on weekend duty doing home visits (GP) we use Honda CRVs with green lights if needing to get to someone ASAP to encourage folk to move out the way.

I thought you could still put an older plate on them, just not newer?
Yes, but it would have to be a private plate to not be an 03/53 plate on a 2003 car.TDutchy said:

A Doctor responding on behalf of the Ambulance service may have blues and twos and claim exemptions as a 'vehicle used for ambulance purposes' , few if any of the Doctors responding for Ambulance service have marked vehicles even if they have a Ambulance service supplied vehicle (e.g. Medical directors, ditto with Paramedics, Techs and other Health professionals in senior roles with the ambulance service where they may be required to respond ) - a lot of the doctors working on behalf of the ambulance service do so not as employees but as 'contractors' via Immediate Care Schemes When on weekend duty doing home visits (GP) we use Honda CRVs with green lights if needing to get to someone ASAP to encourage folk to move out the way.
Any Doctor with full registration may fit green beacons and special warning devices but not a siren and they have no rights to claim exemptions...
