RE: Gran Turismo Vs Reality On The Nordschleife
Discussion
Someone on the DC2 forums did say that they tried the Pug 908 around silverstone and ended up a few tenths out from the actual qualifying time for the LMS series last year. Someone else looked up the DC2 time around Tsukuba and managed roughly the same time on comfort tires.
It seems to be general consensus though that sticking sport or racing tires on a car makes it very "arcadey". I'm still undecided myself, Forza seems to produce a better feel of what the car is doing, it feels more planted if that makes more sense but GT5 as above seems to give the more accurate laptimes.

Another comparison video for ya...

The track may be accurate, but I'm not holding my breath for the realism of how the cars drive... I will try it though just in case! As above though, if someone managed a few tenths off a real life qualifying time without real life feedback and not being a pro racing driver, I'm very doubtful it's that realistic.

I find with my G25, that GT5 is better than Forza in that respect, but obviously i'm comparing that to a control pad on the X-box. The force feedback through the steering wheel makes a big difference. It seems to be general consensus though that sticking sport or racing tires on a car makes it very "arcadey". Impressive, but I still can't get over how souless the GT5 car sounds are.
All that attention to detail, and it still sounds like Outrun on the C64
sounds are the best they have been, far far better than prologue even, let alone what went before. Have you tried the Mazda 787B or a race tuned Pagani? Any V12 tuned really does howl. I agree that more noise would be good, but you are limited by what you play it through. Does anyone play it through a surround sound system and if so, does that make much difference? All that attention to detail, and it still sounds like Outrun on the C64

Surprised his real time is almost the same as his game time. ..this time Leguna Seca - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31bH2t2X95g
Would expect game time to be good bit faster allowing for press start to reset button enhancing ball size.

Love the Nurburg on GT5, Although I seem to set consecutive times of 8:15 with several completely different cars?!
i'm down to 7.26 with my GTR.... spending most of my time on that track surprisingly enough :-)I'm doing 8:15s in the M3, NSX R and an Impreza, all completely standard I may add.
I'm playing with the GT force steering wheel and to me the track 'feels' great!
Although I am sure it goes without saying the real thing is out of this world.

Rubbish sound effects or not, you have to admire that Japanese dedication to perfection. I hear that the depth of rendering work that goes into each car is just mind-blowing. Maybe they'd blown the budget when it came to the sounds...?
From understanding (i.e. reading the GT5 Thread on here when it came out), only the 'premium' cars and the 'premium' tracks are rendered in such detail. The common or garden stuff that you start off in (do they still have squillions of slightly different Japanese hatchbacks?) and the generic GT tracks aren't that much different from GT4.I may be wrong however.
