GF just been quoted a £200 hike on insurance because of having moved to a slightly diff postcode. Aside from moving again, can anything be done whatsoever? I think I know the answer but as I am not an insurance expert I thought I would throw it out there. Maybe someone knows a good company to try or something? thanks

Put it in a garage, fit a better alarm?

Obviously more cars stolen in the new area, which is comforting to know!

I was led to believe your job title can make a bit of a difference. Change that and see what happens.

Only the usual and thats shop around, although other things worth checking is that she hasn't overestimated how many miles she'll be doing in a year, also trying alternative job title. Changing my partners job title from Call Centre Operative to Healthcare advisor (which is what he does in said call centre resulted in a £80 saving for his premium)

ok we don't live together smile

she doesn't have a garage but has a driveway but it gets shared with her housemates, so her car isn't always parked on it, so the correct location to say is street in that case I would say. Alarm would prob cost more than £200. She is a teacher so not much you can do with that job title!

So she'll have bloody twelve weeks holiday a year then.

She can get a job at Starbucks for one of them and cover it.

It may not be down to theft that its high, it may be that the inhabitants of that postal code are prone to claim for accidents etc.

Moved from the centre of Bury to the edge of Bolton in 2007 - 20% rise in premium (but only £60 rolleyes ). Why? Reduced theft rates but increased costs of accidents in the area, as it's on the edge of the countryside and the faster roads, they said... They may have a point, from viewing the chunks of once-a-car strewn about the village and the sides of the roads (and occasionally in the fields) at the top of the hill (it was neat piles of bits of plastic and glass in Bury!).

Messing with your occupation (but being honest smile ) is a good move, as others have said; easier (and cheaper and less hassle) than moving. So is shopping around.
