Watched the Nurburgring video and then clicked on this. The fact it can do both makes it a very capable all-rounder.

I recently tested both a 3.0 SDV6 RRS and a '11MY 4.4TDV8 RR and to be honest the 4.4 is significantly better (both on and off-road) and with the 8 speed box is just another step up. The LR Experience guy said that LR won't be fitting the 4.4TDV8 into the RRS to ensure that the full fat RR stays the best. Still that supercharged 5 litre was tugging...
Then why would they fit the supercharged V8 to both? The reason they can fit the new 4.4 TDV8 into the RRS is it simply wont fit the 4.4 is much taller than the old 3.6 one

Still beats me why people test drive or even buy hefty 4x4s and then say things like .... " this one is less wallowy" .... or .... "the handling is even more car like" ... or .... " for such a large vehicle it handles really well".

Just buy a bloody car then!!!!!!

The 2010 model onwards RRS and Disco 4 have progressed in so many more ways than the previous models. Working for a lr dealer I have road tested a few

The OH has got a baby 2.7 TDV6 RRS which we just did 2000 miles in through the Alps 4-up with 2 300L Kamei top boxes. Averaged 27mpg inspite of the mountain passes covered in snow and cruising for extended periods at 140kph.

It is bloody brilliant inspite of the stereotyping.

As a previous poster mentioned, a 1000 miles in a single hit is no problem in a car which is so comfortable.

Mind you, we've done a 1000 miles in a single hit in a 1.3 Hyundai Getz...

However good they may be, someone driving a 2-tonne+ off-road vehicle fitted with 22" chromed rims and other ephemera which would be ripped-off on a muddy track - let alone actually off-road - is always going to be seen as a bit of a berk/show-off.

As many RR's sell BECAUSE of the image as in spite of it tho, I'm sure. That and the imperious driving position - looking down on the plebs and all that (see also X5, Cayenne and most other road-targetted 4x4s) - it puts bums in seats and people in debt...

Probably not worth trying to fathom the reasons why...

Because people can spend their own money how they choose.

Not debt involved for me, paid in cash. Suppose that's an issue for you as well? wink

RR's have always been a prestige product bought by the landed gentry, the whole idea was to have a off road rolls. They are huge status symbols in many countries outside the UK.

the only people who shop in Ikea are the ones who bought their RRS on a zero deposit PCP or remortgage and can't afford the fuel bills so it spends most of its life sat outside their Northern Rock 120% self cert funded 5 bedroom executive new build.
Firstly, the RR wasn't originally made for the 'landed gentry' and luxury features, not even more than 3 doors, did not feature for years. At the time it was launched the general idea couldn't have been further from the Silver Shadow in every conceivable way. Secondly, the last bit of your post just sounds like outright jealousy. I would wager that no more RRs are bought with that type of finance than any other comparable prestige marque. There are plenty of S-Classes sat outside 3-bed terraces in dodgy areas of cities, for example. Why someone shopping at Ikea should single them out for being financed up to the hilt is beyond me - perhaps they just want some good old fashioned value for money, which is why they can afford an RR in the first place? Just a thought.

My 2011 MY 4.4 is in a different league to my previous 3.9 TDV8, handling is superb and the power from that V8 is awesome, coupled with the 8 speed gearbox. If you want to make progress there aren't that many cars that will be able to stay with it.

Bling to the Ring would be a better title!

Why would you take your huge over-sized / over weight Bling-box to the Ring other than if you were towing something behind that is actually worth driving round the ring in?
Because it's fun coming up behind a Porsche 944, catch up on it, and pass it in the Karussel smile (ok admittedly he might not have known the Ring as well as me, but the look on his face was priceless)

Seriously impressed by how well the "blingbox" handles, to be honest.

A RR Sport is not ideal as a family car, not a muscle car, not a sports car, not the best of offroaders (especially with 22 inch Kahn rims added!) so what is it? I will tell you, something for people who just want to show off! As a car a proper RR does everything better, if you want to go fast buy a fast car! Each to their own, I just dont like the things at all! they remind me of the hideous Escalade thing in the US.

Give me a full size proper RR or a Discovery any day.. and people will wont mistake me for Rio Ferdinand or Dale Winton! wink
Sorry to argue with you, but for me, I bought an RRS for the following reasons:

- Coming from BMW (owned 10), it's a HUGE improvement for long distance driving. Cabin is a lot more quiet than the 5-series was, and I can easily drive up to 1.000 miles a day without feeling knackered in the end.
- I can haul around quite some stuff on the distances I do in it (62k miles a year easily), without having to shift in what I want to take with me.

And most importantly: I feel the FFRR styling is just too "old" for me, and the Disco's is just too odd, I prefer the looks of the RRS.

As for not being capable of offroading... might I suggest you coming along to one of my next offroad trips, and I'll gladly show you I "hoon" around pretty well in between some prepped Defenders on my 20" Stormers...

No need to be sorry chap!. I have expressed my views in earlier posts and i know they are very capable cars and not ALL are driven by attention seekers.. But sadly most of the ones i see driving over curbs in london are driven by orange ladies or people who look a bit shifty..

..anyone know the 0-100mph-0 time for the TDV8 RRS?

Picked mine up today, love the fact it feels so swift for a 2.5 ton lump of luxuary.

...just off to Ikea in it now funnily enough.
