As its Valentines day soon me and the OH are off to a hotel for a night so I'm looking to kill two birds and find a nice drive to a nice plush(ish) hotel about an hour/hour and a half from Birmingham. Any idea's?

Can't help on hotel but.

The cat and fiddle run in Derbyshire is not too far from Birmingham. There is plenty of lovely hotels in the Peak district. Also not too far from here to snakes pass either.

Someone will be able to recommend a hotel but I live in Derby so don't need a hotel to enjoy it biggrin

Lots of nice hotels in Ludlow, nice medieval town/castle to wander round etc. Otherwise Buxton or similar in the Peak District, or somewhere in the Malvern Hills.

Cotswolds

I thoroughly recommend this hotel Dormy House

Had my 40th birthday party there and regularly go there to eat. Great driving roads in the area and Fish Hill is on the doorstep.

I would second the Dormy House or Ludlow (Dinham Hall was wonderful last time I stayed there but it's been a few years).

Driving roads, though? For one night away? Your other half is going to kill you wink

I'll have a look at it - thanks!

Nah she's be fine, she's understanding when it comes to me and motors. A bit of time of the road and a bit of time with the OH - everybody's happy!

Try

The Broadway Hotel
Russells of Broadway

If you are wealthy Buckland Manor or the Lygon Arms.

I can personally recommend all of the above.

Probably looking at about £150 so I guess me saying plush was a bit off target with some places that have been mentioned, but I did say plush(ish!)

Edited to add....

Type of hotel? Anything goes really as long as its clean, relatively spacious and with a pub or two in walking distance. Mirror's in the room are a bonus

Dumbleton Hall Hotel - but have evening meal elsewhere

Try searching for luxury B&B in the Cotswolds

You won't get dinner at Buckland Manor for £150 let alone a room. I had valentines dinner their last year and it cost £250 inc wine. So that one is out

Ettington Manor near Stratford is nice, part of the Handpicked group and they've often got various deals on their website.

My parents live just outside Ludlow and it is relatively empty and quite hilly, so good fun BUT there are so many tractors (and muddy roads) and when you come across a car, it is invariably doing 40 everywhere.

Head to Wales and drop the hammer would be my advice.
