I would, yes, but only a few selected mates. I'd be reluctant to buy a car for someone else however, for fear that they would always 'blame' me (even if it was unspoken) should anything go wrong with it. Same reason I don't like selling a car of mine to someone I know (even when car as sold is perfectly ok).

I have a mate whom I would trust. One.

In general though he'd do far better than I would. His current daily cost him £50.

But he'd never choose the same car to inspect and consider - but in principle I'd let a friend choose, except for the fact that it's far more fun to do it yourself.

Depends on the car, depends on the mate.

I don't think so. While I do have a few friends I would trust to do this, it's something I like to do myself.

I sent my dad out to look at a couple of Cavaliers etc. when I was at Uni a good few years ago. Really wanted a 2.0

Was not impressed when he told me he had looked at a Audi 1.8E and bought it. Actually it was not a bad car and parts/insurance were not as bad as I thought.

It did need brakes all round though, which through my Dad being a softy he decided he would prefer to pay for than go battle with the trader. Also discovered over time that the valve stem seals had hardened so a bit Smokey on startup.

One of my mates is a dealer that spends a lot of time up the auctions. I'm happy enough to tell him I want a £4k diesel repmobile or a £15k sports car and see what comes back, though he did have the decency to ring me about the sports car before bidding on it..

I'd let my brother look at a car for me and decide if it was a good one because I trust his judgement and that he knows what he is looking at. My other mates, no, not at all. There have been a few "performance" purchases between them but all on relatively new cars. I certainly wouldn't trust them with my money.
