To be realistic, a well driven M3 or RS4 will probably stick with a 12C on UK roads, unless a driver is going to be a bit reckless and go beyond the limit point.
At that point you may as well stop trying to argue the point, the biggest idiot always "wins" irrespective of what they drive (within reason of course wink
Think that's true of just about *any* half-decent road car now, unless your planning on driving like a psychopath.

if your talking about twisty B roads without long straight sections, something like an (old) Lotus Elise will murder most stuff - weight has a huge effect here.

it will be interesting to see how the MP4-12C does in this respect, ie. how 'nimble' it is, (if you look at how the GTR disguises it's weight, it's certainly possible)

How about testing the MP4-12C against the GT-R and the Veyron? Two ends of the spectrum price wise, but both also have been claimed to be "clinical" or perhaps more accurately putting engineering first at the expense of enjoyment. You wouldn't be testing those 3 for performance, I guess I know the result, but for fun factor.

It would make a nice counterpoint to the M600 / 458 / GT2 RS / Car X test you could also do for the performance side.

How did you manage that?
I drove our new demonstraor from Reading to North London to another NSX approved dealer, picked up a brand New NSX T (ours was a coupe) and was driving it to Cambridge to deliver it to a client for an overnight test drive. going up the A1 it started making horrible crunchy noises. Turns out the PDI hadnt been fully completed before they released the car to me and it lunched the engine due to lack of oil. Honda UK turned up, boxed the car up and it wasnt seen againfor a while. Shame really as I left an oasis CD and a pair of Raybans in there!

so in a way its true that they've never had a problem with a looked after engine.

Is it even possible to do a fair test against a 458?

The world of sports car manufacturing has entered a new era. The competition had better be afraid, very afraid. With the 12C and the models planned to follow it, they are all going to be running just to catch up with McLaren. Simply brilliant, as you would expect of those very clever people at Woking.

Superb engineering from this country, 50 years ago E Type hit the news, this car deserves the same applause and recognition. Would prefer this to the Italian car.

The engineering and detailing looked superb at Autosport, looks like it delivers.
Brilliant and its British.

If you're driving it, does it matter what it looks like on the outside? It's a drivers car, not a posing pouch.
Yes it does. If I spend £170k on something, I want it to look nice, thanks.

Luckily - this car is hardly a bush pig. I do think another colour apart from orange will suit it better, though.

are we really saying that this is a bland car? it's a very confidantly designed car with alot of nods to its brother over there smile i also like the way that Mclaren havn't panderd to the masses like ferrari with the 458's 'audi'esque jump on the bandwagon led light strips'

if i ever get the means, im buying mine in chrome, rocket red wheels.
That picture shows how stunning and modern the F1 still looks.

Interesting article. However can we have less of the Clarksonesque cheap semi-inaccurate jibes "Which is important, what with the British car industry having abandoned its greatness at around about the same time that Steven Spielberg decided to make a film about a very big fish."
There always has to be some neqativeness about anything home grown, even in this tangential way.
If it were an German car and we were on a German website we would be saying it is much better than the Ferrari. So come on lets be a bit more positive and look at the future instead of always mentioning the past!
Well, Britain has turned out some convincing rivals to the Porsche 911, Volkswagen Golf, Audi R8, Audi TT, Porsche Cayman, Mercedes SLS, Mercedes SL, BMW M3 and BMW M5 over the past ten years hasn't it?

Oh no. It hasn't.

Well......

Porsche 911 / Cayman - Evora / S
Merc Sl - XK8
BMW M5 - Jag XFR

I hope Ron Dennis is being selective to who he sells them to, the first time a premiership footballer buys one the brand will be deminished. I trully hope it doesn't attract their attention.

fantastic, great write up, amazing car... makes the italians look like they are shouting very loudly for no real good reason... yet this clean looking machine sounds like it offers a more pure driving experience and is effortlessly classy and tasteful... just needs to be a decent colour not orange or green FFS!

lets hope the footballers leave it alone.. tongue out
