I understood that the double de-clutching was because the soundtrack was in fact a gt40!

Is there really so little motoring news that the team have resorted to scanning youtube for content?

If you're looking for something to write about, I'd love to hear a PH response to this?: http://ca.jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins

What a completely miserable lot of nitpicking twerps on this thread. This video is genius. The fact that someone on a PH thread can actually admit to never having seen Bullitt tells me more than I need to know.

I would disagree with the Bullet car chase being the greatest in movie history, for me it still has to be the one at the begining of Mad max 2 it was short brutal and well filmed imo

Anorak time - the Lotus Cortina in shot has a works registration plate CPU 393C, and is in Alan Mann Racing (of Byfleet)colours - well in minature! Maybe it was stolen from one of the US circuits it was raced at - from memory Sebring 8hrs had 2 Alan Mann cars entered? A number of race prepared Lotus Cortina's were shipped to states in 1964 and 1965 - if you can find a copy of Year of the Cortina on DVD (or more likely good old video tape) its worth a watch, some great races and the music is just so period! The Galaxy shots are brilliant - like a aircraft carrier around tiny circuits like Brands and Crystal Palace

Both the mark I and II Cortinas were officially imported into the US and Canada (1500cc gt variant). As were the MK I Fiestas (Later on I know) and the MK I and II Capris. Capris were badged as Mercurys. Eagled-eyed amongst you will notice the MkII Cortina GT (in Lotus colours) in the film Christine in the warehouse where Christine is destroyed.

The sound track to the Mustang 390GT was indeed a recording of a 427cu GT40. The Mustang had some serious upgrades done so that it could just 'keep up' with the straight line ability of the 440 Charger. Two cars of each were made for the filming. Both Chargers were wrote off and one Mustang was wrote off. The other survives in its unrestored form. Originally purchased from the film set by an employee!

It was alledged that Steve McQueen offered 'a blank cheque' for the Mustang when he was alive, but the offer was refused!!

The GT40 soundtrack is a bit too racey for the 'Stang IMO and doesn't equate to the speeds the car is doing but the sound the Charger makes in the tracking shot just after the drift onto the very wide bit of dual carriageway is awesome, so beefy but understated, sounds like a street-legal exhaust too.

Totally agree! One of my favourite films ever. I love the fact that when the baddies are on either side of the Falcon Max hits the brakes hard. A bit more effective than a load of panel bashing along the road like so many other (American)films.

Also when the fuel warning light began to flash and he had to turn off the supercharger even the dog knew they were in trouble it gave the whole scene a sense of added menace,
