Actually if you wanted to get carried away you could do NSEW in each country, England, Wales and Scotland.

I'd gladly stand corrected but I think the most westerly point of mainland Britain is actually in Scotland.

No it's me that stands corrected, you're right.

That makes it even more interesting.

Did Genoa, Italy to the 'ring about 5 years back in around 7 hours- about 550 miles I think, then did me lap, complete with a full compliment of cmping gear in the car and went to a B&B for a beer after. I was shattered. Gotta love roadtrips though. In a nissan silvia I had just imported and hadn't even serviced smile

My best was in France a couple of years ago. I'd been in Antibes on the beach all day, then at 8pm left to drive the length of France to get to Boulogne for the 11am ferry. Doesnt sound far but i stayed on the backroads as i was too tight to pay for the motorway tolls!! I was in my old 5cyl Audi Cab, not fast but smooth. Had to put the roof down at 4am to stay awake. Then when we got back to Blighty, I had to drop my mate off in St Albans then drive back down to SW London. In total, it was 1048 miles in 19 hours. Like i said, not fast but it was the endurance aspect i enjoyed! Talking of endurance, i was back in France the next day on my way to Le Mans. That was a good summer.....

I just told my girlfriend about this and she said it's not possible.
I now need to prove her wrong.

It'd be nice to see this becoming an event. I'll discuss it with the chaps. Might see you all in Cornwall. 21st June I suppose.

It'd be better with two nice places on opposite coasts that are the right distance apart to make a sunset-to-sunrise challenge without using any motorways.

Abersoch to Lowestoft, for example, without motorways, is 320 miles and Google reckons on 8 hours 53 minutes. In the middle of the night you'd be quite a lot quicker than google is estimating.

Its a fantastic drive across Wales, Cheshire, the Peak District, Lincolnshire and the Fens. I'd be up for that.

I'd imagine, come the 21st June, there will be plenty (more than normal) of traffic about, between sunset and sunrise between those two points . wink

1258 miles, @ average 53, it has to be on in 24 hours surely?

With 2 drivers or more this should be easy within 24 hours. One driver, with maybe 4 hours sleep, could conceivably manage it, but its probably not a good idea (nor much fun).

Agreed, better with more than one vehicle too as per the OP.

Timing is an issue also, i.e avoiding busy times on certain roads, eg major hold up on A30 or M25 and you'd be screwed, plus tank range once into the western Highlands loop for anything a bit thirsty.
