Having hung around historic racers since I was tiny (and that was sadly a considerable time ago), I agree - it's the most amazingly spine chilling noise that humankind has ever made - incredible when it was running properly. I've seen and heard them in real life more than a few times, but what really sticks is a flexidisc 45rpm my dad had as a freebie in maybe the late 70's (when I was around 7 yrs old) - had one hell of an impact!
