Dad had one of the S2 1.3's. Cracking car with a lovely fizzy engine. Shame about the holes though.

Great article and a smashing car - the automobile equivalent of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's!

£55,000 for the Veyron 'replica' or £35,000 for for an immaculate HF...
The meeting will not need to spend too long debating that decision.

Nice. Are the items on the shelf a Peter Pan reference about never growing old?

I'm looking forward to the day when I can make a direct comparison between a Fulvia (which I must own one day) and my father's 105 series 2000GTV and / or his 1300 GT Junior.

Never seen one of those before (Young-un).. that looks lovely! Does it show what car designers can do when not constrained by safety regulations.. or was it simply a 'design of the time'?

Both! I don't think it was particularly avant garde when new (other than the quality of engineering and performance). Cars were just simpler (less gadgets or "safety" features) back then so less to restrict what the designer wanted it to look like.

A gorgeous car, one of the best looking ever made IMHO. Would really love to own one someday.

Saweeeeeet! Love retro cars. This, the Lotus Cortina, Mk1 Escort. If only they smelled like 2 stroke bikes it would be cloud9
And a weird fetish of mine of all the cars I want to own would be one of these

Always loved the look of these pretty little cars, perfectly proportioned. I have a vague memory of seeing a couple of them parked in the car park at Beaulieu motor museum many many moons ago.

Lancia and Alfa both seemed to have an inspired way of making their cars look and feel so much more special than the sum of their parts.

Had chance of a concourse condition Fulvia about 15 years ago, but was put off by the honesty of the seller with the fact body parts would continue to rust & need replacing, repainting in about 4 years time frown

Wonderful looking motor !!

The rust "thing" is overplayed. They are 40 year old cars, and like all 40 year old designs corrosion protection and "anti-corrosion" design were not part of the brief. Some will have lasted well (my Fanalone needed only two sills and a back panel) others will have been left outside to rot. Most 60's Minis are as original as Triggers broom!

Repair is relatively straight forward, most of the important panels are available and mechanically they are a dream to work on. Beautiful little coach built cars.

Lovely cars, probably one of my key childhood motoring memories was of runs out with Dad in rural Herefordshire in his 1.3 Rallye (less poke a but all the alloy panels). He had three over the years and I recall him selling the last one when I was 15 - rust free and he sold it for £200...

Hi
Agree with all the above. I have a 1.3 S2 and despite the rust (just waiting for the sun to come out....) it is pure joy to drive. Incredible feel (light, precise), and such a rorty engine. Helped by a few "air intakes" in the bulkhead.
Helped also by the fact that my neighbour is a genius with the car, and in particular the Solexes.
If anyone out there is serious, my brother is selling his totally immaculate 1.6 Lusso - virtually new.
And he has a 1750 so can compare them (daily!) as well as another 1.3 S2 and wouldn't part with either.

Found a few photos that might prove the point.
This is the engine (1600 HF)
