CVT
Crikey - most probably going to flop then - I have only ever driven two CVT - one was a fiesta and the other a merc A class, and they both had one thing in common - they both made loads of noise revving all over the place, in fact it was bad enough for me to never want to drive a CVT ever again.
Shame, because i wanted to like this subaru coupe idea - as i always had a soft spot for the SVX but it obviously wasnt meant to be .....

I was so hoping that the 216A was going to turn out to be something close to the Prodrive P2, but as time has gone on this seems less and less likely.
Hopefully they will get it right with the styling (but Subaru's recent efforts don't inspire much confidence) and we get an STi version of the car at a later date with proper transmission and some more horses.

I have to agree - CVT, while a nice concept and undoubtedly efficient, has no place in a 'sports car'. I've driven a Jazz CVT and it was frankly f'n awful. It even had 7 artificial ratios you could switch between via the paddles, which improved things a little but it still sounded like a strangled cow...Crikey - most probably going to flop then - I have only ever driven two CVT - one was a fiesta and the other a merc A class, and they both had one thing in common - they both made loads of noise revving all over the place, in fact it was bad enough for me to never want to drive a CVT ever again.
Whenever subaru talks about new models, it leaves me feeling like I'm walking on eggshells.
MY01 Impreza.
Tribeca.
I could go on, but they need new designers desperately. And they need to pull weight out of their cars.
I also wonder how the RWD thing will play to their PR. They have been known as the AWD company for so long now, with the safety benefits that AWD can bring. What sort of message will it send to the market that they've moved away from AWD?
This just seems like a really, really strange message to send to the market, after so many years of AWD.
and BTW, 4 of my last 5 cars have been Impreza's.

You answered your own question there. The RWD set up is to keep the weight down.MY01 Impreza.

Plenty of pics out of mules testing & the FT86 Toyota version is already revealed in concept form though pretty much production ready I'd say from seeing in the flesh.

I like the look of that...a lot!http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8
CVTs, like reversing cameras and unobtanium powerplants, are great in concepts cars, but that's where they should stay.
In production, efficiency should come from low weight and a more efficient (compared to 4WD) 2WD manual transmission.
I'll take my Toyobaru in black, with an NA boxer and RWD please.

I've driven one. It felt noticeably faster in a straight line than both mk2.5 MX5's that I've owned but as soon as I started turning the steering wheel I prefered the MX5.
No fking way would I describe the MR2 and Celicia's are 'sportscars' or even approaching them.
You can quote 190bhp all day long. Doesn't mean bks to me. Sorry.
The MR2 doesn't have 190bhp, it has about 140. And I don't see what power output has got to do with it. No fking way would I describe the MR2 and Celicia's are 'sportscars' or even approaching them.

I certainly wouldn't call the Celica a sports car.
I agree with you both though, the Celica is not a sports car, it's a FWD coupé, so it fails on two counts.
