I appreciate there are cars that will be cheaper than that, but even the modest sized ones on my MX-5 were £400 a set.
Actually mine should be well over the £400 for anything of any quality, I just have to go budget at the moment and not drive it anywhere near its ability frown

I would ask a lot more people to do this survey as well, as most of Pistonheads will have paid well over £400 for a set of tyres, will know what dangers underinflating has and will check them at least twice a month.

Great idea - how obvious are they? ie, how often do they get stolen?

Thanks for all feedback guys. Im really grateful.

I had the idea while sitting in my dads car trying to think up a cheap mass market idea. After some looking around on the internet I found the dust cap type Miniman found too. My is very similar but I planed to design it as just a valve not a dust cap.

About the survey I know it wasnt perfectly suited to this forum due to tyre prices and miles driven. I think thats because the product itself is more aimed at casual car owners who dont think of all the things we do or wouldnt pay more than £100 per corner.

Any way thanks again this should really help.

If possible, it may be worth amending the question about the cost of a set of tyres.
I can't imagine many people spending less than £400 on a set of tyres (on here at least!). smile
I just paid £160 for 2 tyres: Kuhmo KL71's at £79 a corner, infact they were £69 a corner a couple of months ago when I bought 4, just bought 2 more as spares, as they aren't always in stock in the UK.

Fantastic idea with the valve!! Good luck!!!

So you'd plan to sell them to tyrefitters so that when a tyre is fitted to the rim and a valve fitted they would use your valve? That sounds great as it couldn't be pinched! As long as it didn't cost too much, or they were reuseable.

Smiler.

I run pressure & temp sensors on both cars & bikes. I always know when the pressures are low against a control. They are supposedly calibrated to 1 or 2 PSI at ambient temp.

I have found that not all compressed air is the same (moisture content) & affects the change between ambient temp & hot.

Three points, First over inflation can be as bad for tyres as under inflation.
Secondly any tyre pressure gauge must be accurate as if it is only accurate to within 2-3 psi it may not be good enough, and good accuracy mounted on the wheel possibly where it can get lost damaged or stolen.
Finally it must be safe if damaged and not cause the tyre a slow leak or to lose air.

I now your course probably isn't about writing surveys, but it was pretty poorly designed boxedin

Best of luck though.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. It may be hard to actually do but I needed stuff to write in my assignment. I was hoping maybe even manufacturers too.

yikes

What rubber are you putting on there Lukey baby? They are 16"?
Yeah 16, which are rather more expensive than if it was on the more 'normal' 15s which are 195/50/15.
Mine's on P Zero Neros which were just shy of £100/corner when I found them last time.
Given I burnt through a rear set in about 5k miles (including one handling day) I replaced them with something a bit cheaper! wink
