I think that last point nails it. Ford probably wanted the Focus ST to be seen in a better light but the downside was that the Fiesta ST was just lagging behind it's competitors.
Thanks for the agreement smile

But yeah, Fiesta ST should be as hot as the likes of Mini Cooper S, Clio Cup ect... "Supermini's" and should therefore have the fuel consumption and power of such cars. 160BHP while returning little MPG is not good enough.

ST is your Hot Hatches competing with the likes of Megane 225? Civic Type R and the sorts. Should be separated as such categories, if ford wants to see the success of both cars they need not be afraid that one will demolish the sales of its older brother.

Perfect example, I have a single friend who doesnt really need the space of a focus ST, doesnt carry more than 2 people often ect... A fiesta ST would have done perfectly, except he wanted more power and didnt like the fuel consumption of the Fiesta for what it was.

Not to mention that the post mk5 Fiestas have looked very bulky and ungainly, and there was that weird interim where they looked like a squashed, boxy Focus.

It needs at least 180hp to compete with the Corsa VXR and the fast Ibiza/Fabia/Polo. I've driven the last ST and all it really needed was more power.

In defence of the Mk6 ST (and yes I do own one) it is a good little car, and suits my personal needs well. The handling is very, very good with good grip, weighty steering, superb turn in and it's nicely adjustable on the limit.

Bad points are the driving position is too high and the power doesn't match what the chassis is capable of taking. But I commute in mine as a daily drive and can have a lot of fun nonetheless for what is a cheap car, both in terms of what I paid for it and in running costs. I achieve an average of 33mpg with spirited driving which isn't that bad.

So really it's not a bad car at all, it could just do with a bit more power as others have eluded to. And if they make a new version with 180 - 200bhp and it handles well I for one would certainly take a test drive!

Mountune kit solves the lack of power quite easily on the mk6 st fiesta imo
