Just a thought as the 0-60 claims will be better than they actually are with just a simple modifcation / panel filter. I heard Saxo VTRs are quite restrictive, aswell as fiesta STs?

Don't know how true this is but does anyone know of any other cars that have restrictive filters?

Not a filter, but the e36 323i and 328i both have restrictive inlet manifolds.

83hp 1.4 K-series has a restrictor in the throttle body. Take it out/replace it, instant 105hp version.

Isn't the 90bhp BMW Mini just the 100bhp, but with the software not letting the throttle open fully?

I found the 1.4 K-Series in the old wedge shaped rover's had a very small filter and ran alot better with a chav filter on the end of the throttle body, which is surprising as most small engined cars run really lean with the chav filters on and loose power!

Coupled with a Catalytic Converter from a Rover 800 2.5V6 and a Rover 220 Magnex Stainless system and it ran like a dream!

I had a Rover 214 that would top 135MPH (as clocked by West Yorkshire Police!) with the above mods, but even with a K&N in the standard filter box was struggling to top 115MPH!

I think a major issue with alot of modern cars is the packaging and routing of the intake rather than smooth and free air flow!

Not to mention emissions pumping your exhaust fumes into the inlet frown

I had a rover (well an MG ZR 1.4) with the same engine and mods, and even with an inaccurate speedo theres no way it would ever go above an indicated 125 down a nice gradient (actual speed I imagine somewhere around 115-118), let alone an actual speed of 135 which would be showing something like 145+ on the speedo.

I seam to remember hearing that the old Corsa GSI was de-tuned on the inlet side as it was embarrassing the Astra GSI of the same era

Mk1 Golf GTi. Very restrictive airbox.

Cutting holes in it helped no end.

Something like that, 83 bhp stock, but can be Bluefinned to match the Cooper 120-odd bhp.

A couple of my mates had Saxo VTR's years ago and they placed Pipercross/K&N air filters in and didn't report much of a differences other than that the engine noise changed for the worse. Mind you, those were awful cars.

You will find most cars have restrictive inlet systems and less than ideal routing/location within the engine bay in order to keep noise levels down as having a open filter an short runner intake makes the engine a lot louder in terms of induction noise on acceleration.

My little Daihasu Cuore has a really restricted manifold, it goes fron the 4 cylinders to one pipe the size of a 50p piece. Apparently it was to meet the Japanese Kei car standards where the power has a certain limit.

I thought the GSi Corsa just used the X16XE engine, which wasn't great anyway ?
